Stay Informed About Emergencies As we prepare this month’s newsletter, Tropical Storm Erika threatens to turn into the first hurricane of the year with any real potential to reach Tybee. Don’t be left out! Your safety is our top concern – that’s why the City of Tybee Island uses the Citizen Alert system powered by Everbridge to make sure you know about issues that may affect you. Effective August 26th, we have upgraded Citizen Alert to have better security and to give us all more choices in what events to send and receiving notifications. This system allows us to contact thousands of residents in seconds to inform everyone about an emergency right away. The process begins when the city issues a message about a potential safety hazard or concern. Next, Citizen Alert sends a message through your primary contact path. If you don't confirm receipt of the message, the system will try to reach your second contact path and will continue trying to reach you until you confirm receipt. The success of this service relies on YOU. Having your latest contact information is the only way to ensure that we can contact you in an emergency. Please sign up. If you have already signed up for the Citizen Alert service, please login within the next few weeks to update your information – make sure your contact information is up-to-date, and review the new, expanded set of notification choices you have. Weather notices will be forwarded directly from NOAA, and the new system will allow us to notify you of meetings and keep utility outages such as water main breaks confined to effect areas. We’ve created a shortened URL for your convenience: type bit.ly/CitizenAlerts into the address bar of your browser – it only takes about a minute to enroll! The City of Tybee will never share or distribute your personal information, unless required to do so by law, and will never use Citizen Alert information for any purpose other than to send emergency notifications or information pertaining to city business, events or emergencies. If you need any assistance with the process of signing up, don’t hesitate to call our IT Department’s Michael Bodine at 912.472.5112 for help!
