Our Regular Reminder As long as cyclists don’t obey traffic rules and cars pass pedestrians in crosswalks, we will continue to remind all: Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! Please use the 2nd Ave bike route. Cyclists have all the responsibilities of vehicles! Cyclists also have all the rights of a motor vehicle, and drivers MUST provide 3’ space when passing a cyclist! You must STOP for any pedestrians crossing or trying to cross at any marked crosswalks. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. New safety signals are being installed and will shortly be completed at every marked cross-walk on Highway 80 on Tybee. Please use them if you are walking, and obey them if you are driving! Remember, the Butler Ave speed limit is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa. Let out-of-town guests and friends know, too! Homestead Exemptions Applications must be filed each year to be eligible for senior rates on utility bills and exemption from ad valorem taxes on real and personal property. The deadline for filing for Homestead Exemption is April 1. Individuals qualifying for the Homestead Exemption must, as of January 1, be 62 years old, have a total combined household income of less than $30,000 for 2015, own a Tybee home, and have legal residency here. Applications are available at City Hall or under the Forms link on the City website. Forms must be submitted with a copy of your 2015 tax return, or, if you do not file, a copy of your year-end 2015 Social Security statement.
