New Flashing Pedestrian Crossing Lights
New flashing crosswalk signs are now operational at every marked intersection. State law requires, you must stop at any marked intersection, whether there are lights or not, if there
is a pedestrian attempting to cross. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Pedestrians should cross at marked crosswalks and
should always operate the lights.
Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! Please use the 2nd Ave bike route. Cyclists have all the responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Cyclists also have all
the rights of a motor vehicle, and drivers MUST provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist! Remember, the Butler Ave speed limit is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa.
TIPD Seeking Volunteers for Major Events
TIPD is looking for volunteers to help with large scale events for 2016 including Orange Crush, Beach Bum, Memorial Day and Fourth of July. Please, contact Chief Bryson at 912-786-5600.
Reminder for Residents
Don’t forget to stop in at the Development Authority/Main Street office at City Hall to renew your 2016 Locals Appreciation Card.
Light the Night Bike Ride
Light the Night Ride Saturday, March 5th, to promote safe night cycling. Meet in Memorial Park at 6:00 p.m. with your bicycle. Headlights will be given to those who need them, and
we will ride the bike route at 7:30 to Bernie’s Bar and Restaurant on Tybrisa, where they will have free appetizers and drink specials.
Recycling and Waste
Effective April 1st, Atlantic Waste will take over garbage, yard waste, and recyclables hauling. Features of the service will include: a six month trial of once weekly, “side-door” pick-up;
waste, recycling, and yard materials on same day; no more glass accepted in recycling. If the community is satisfied with side-door service, the contract will continue. Detailed information
about all these changes can be found at http://www.cityoftybee.org/WasteServices.aspx.
Recycling Plastics
Please be sure to use the bag recycling locations noted below the calendar above to recycle your plastic bags.
Even though the return on recycled goods has been lower lately, our costs for landfill use and YOUR cost for waste services are still higher if we do not place as much recyclable materials
in the recycle bins as possible. Please recycle!
Homestead Exemptions and Utility Discounts

tax return, or, if you do not file, a copy of your year-end 2015 Social Security statement.
