Flashing Pedestrian Crossing Lights State law requires, you must stop at any marked intersection, whether there are lights or not, if there is a pedestrian attempting to cross. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Pedestrians should cross at marked crosswalks and should always operate the lights. After pedestrians have cleared the intersection, vehicles may proceed. Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! Please use the 2nd Ave bike route. Cyclists have all the responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Cyclists also have all the rights of a motor vehicle, and drivers MUST provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist! Remember, the Butler Ave speed limit is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa. TIPD CRASE Training and Volunteers TIPD will be hosting a Citizens Response to Active Shooter Events training on May 3rd. Learn what to do to protect yourself and others in the event a place of business experiences a gunman on the loose. TIPD also is looking for volunteers to help with large scale events for 2016 including Beach Bum, Memorial Day and Fourth of July. Please, contact Jessica Wright at 912-472-5096 for either meeting. Recycling and Waste Effective April 1st, Atlantic Waste took over garbage, yard waste, and recyclables hauling. After service began, Atlantic had to make a few service changes. “Side-door pickup” continues; keep your waste containers in a visible and accessible location so the crew can find them without disturbing your privacy. If the community is satisfied with side-door service, the contract will continue. Waste and recycling will be picked up Monday thru Thursday, and as long as your containers are easily found, you won’t need to worry about moving them to the curb. However, all yard trash will now be picked up on Fridays, island-wide. Follow previously established guidelines for your yard waste. Detailed information about all these changes can be found at http://www.cityoftybee.org/WasteServices.aspx. Recycling Plastics Please be sure to use the bag recycling locations noted below the calendar above to recycle your plastic bags. Even though the return on recycled goods has been lower lately, our costs for landfill use and YOUR cost for waste services are still higher if we do not place as much recyclable materials in the recycle bins as possible. Please recycle! Picnic Tables The Campground is selling wooden picnic tables for $10 each. Bring your pick-up truck and pick one up today – while supplies last! River’s End offers an onsite propane dispensary to fill your bottle while you shop our gift shop with lots of unique gift ideas for Mom, or someone special!
