Plastic bag recycling locations: Chu’s on Inlet, T.S. Chu’s Department Store, City Hall, Tybee IGA Market, TIPD, & YMCA. Start tailgating season right! Get your propane tanks filled without leaving Tybee! River's End Campground offers discounted rates for locals and businesses (proof of residency required.) Flashing Pedestrian Crossing Lights State law requires you must stop at any marked intersection, with lights or without, if there is a pedestrian attempting to cross. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Pedestrians PLEASE cross at marked crosswalks and always operate the lights. After pedestrians have cleared the intersection, vehicles may proceed without waiting for flashers to stop. Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! Please use the 2nd Ave bike route. Cyclists have all the responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Cyclists also have all the rights of motor vehicles. Drivers MUST provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist! Remember, the Butler Ave speed limit is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa. Events Preview TIPD would like you to know that there will be a drug take back at the YMCA Gym on October 22. Putting pharmaceuticals down the drain damages the environment and wildlife, as many drugs are not removed by waste treatment systems. Save your expired prescriptions to bring to the drug take back event, to be safely destroyed! Tybee Island Youth Council Accepting Applicants The Tybee Island Youth Council will be accepting applications for membership beginning September 6, 2016 until September 9, 2016. You must be a resident of Tybee Island, enrolled at TIMA and in grades 4 or 5. Applications are available at the Clerk’s Office in City Hall. Recycling and Waste No need to move your trash bins to the curb; keep waste containers in a visible and accessible location so crews can find them without disturbing your privacy. Waste and recycling pick-ups Monday thru Thursday. Yard trash pick-up is Fridays, island-wide. Yard waste needs to be bundled or placed in paper-only bags for pick-up – no plastic bags! Detailed information about all these changes can be found at our new website; under the Services menu then select Waste and Recycling. Please use the bag recycling locations noted above to recycle your plastic bags. Locations have changed! Even though the return on recycled goods has been reduced, costs for landfill use and YOUR cost for waste service are still higher if we do not place as much recyclable material in the recycle bins as possible. As always, Styrofoam and plastic wrap/film/bags are not recyclable on Tybee. Due to cost issues, glass is no longer recycled; place glass in your trash bin, NOT the recycle bin! Please, recycle! Updated Rental Home Requirements All short term rental (STVR) homes must have registered with the City by September 13, 2016 and annually thereafter. Please contact Sharon Shaver at City Hall, 912.472.5072 to register. All short term rental units must have a sign listing emergency contact phone number that can be seen from outside the building. By January 2017, at the time of renewal, all units must have a landline or 911 phone installed on the property to enable address display if someone calls 911 from the home, allowing emergency personnel to be dispatched directly to the home. Please contact George Shaw at 472-5031 if you have any questions. Reminder: All B&Bs or other short-term rentals MUST have a business license on file at City Hall to operate or be managed by a licensed STVR manager. Hotel-motel tax MUST be reported and paid to the city by the 20th each month. To Address City Council …about existing agenda items, please speak during public comments. To get on the agenda, file an Agenda Request with the City Clerk by noon, Wednesday, eight days prior to the Meeting! Council meets 2nd & 4th Thursday, 7PM, each month.
