Pedestrian Crossings
State law requires you must stop at any marked intersection, with or without lights, if there is a pedestrian attempting to cross. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk
– you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Pedestrians PLEASE cross at marked crosswalks and always operate the lights. After pedestrians have cleared the intersection, vehicles may
proceed without waiting for flashers to stop.
Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! Please use the 2nd Ave bike route. Cyclists have all the responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Cyclists also have all
the rights of motor vehicles. Drivers MUST provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist! Remember, the Butler Ave speed limit is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa.
Beach Bum Rules
The Beach Bum Parade marks the last weekend before summer crowds arrive. This year, that’s May 19th. Roll up your windows and wear your raincoat or your swimsuit!
• Squirt guns are welcome!
• NO PARKING on Butler Avenue on parade day.
• Water balloons, pressure washers, etc. are prohibited. This is a FUN event! Mean-spirited behaviors are not welcome!
• Do not use iced water and / or ice.
• Do not run into the street.
• Do not squirt those who do not wish to participate or who are outside of the parade area.
• Do not squirt parade marshals.
• Squirting law enforcement officers is prohibited and will result in arrest!
Enjoy yourself but remember that safety comes first!
About the First Wednesday Siren Test
People want to know why the sirens go off at noon, but the voice announcement doesn’t come for a half-an-hour afterward. The intervening period is spent with additional testing on the
emergency warning system which doesn’t result in any siren or voice messaging. If the voice message is sent out during that testing, it will cause a problem with the tests.
