Final Hurricane Matthew Q&A When will building permit waivers for non-structural roof and siding repairs cease? This waiver will no longer be available after December 8th. When will unimpeded tree cutting no longer be allowed? Cutting will be allowed through December 8th for damaged and downed trees only – permits are still required but fee is waived. When will the fee waiver for use of the dump cease? December 8th When must people STOP putting things by the side of the road? ALL roadside clean-up efforts are now complete. Regular waste disposal should now be in effect except for remaining clean-ups on private roads and of construction / furniture debris not yet picked up. Yard waste (picked up by the FEMA contractor) is no longer allowed for mass pick up. Any large piles left will require a special pickup by Atlantic at a cost to the owner. Construction/appliance/large furniture items are no longer allowed to be put by curbside. The City is working on getting a proposal for these items to be collected. When will North Beach lot re-open? Hopefully, sometime in December. With the continued dumping by residents in the right-of-way, it has been extended. When can people expect private road pick-up? RFPs were due Monday before Thanksgiving. Waiting for approval by FEMA to collect on private roads, and City Council still have to approve a contract at the December 8th city council meeting before that could possibly start. When is the cut-off for getting indemnity agreements turned in to allow private road pick-ups? Property owners need to get these into the City Clerk ASAP. Once a potential contractor has a contract, the contractor will start to work ONLY on a private road that has all of the indemnity agreements turned in and recorded. When will late fee waivers cease for utility bills and hotel-motel taxes? December’s bills for each must be paid by the December due dates. Flashing Pedestrian Crossing Lights State law requires you must stop at any marked intersection, with or without lights, if there is a pedestrian attempting to cross. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Pedestrians PLEASE cross at marked crosswalks and always operate the lights. After pedestrians have cleared the intersection, vehicles may proceed without waiting for flashers to stop. Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! Please use the 2nd Ave bike route. Cyclists have all the responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Cyclists also have all the rights of motor vehicles. Drivers MUST provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist! Remember, the Butler Ave speed limit is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa.
