PLAINFIELD BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS
MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 21, 2017
Commissioner Michael Nott called the September 21, 2017 meeting of the Board of Police
Commissioners to order at 6:13 p.m. In attendance were Commissioner Nott, Commissioner
Gardner, Commissioner Chapman, Chief John Konopek, and Cindie Blazina. Also in attendance
were two students from Plainfield North High School.
Public Forum-Citizen’s Comments- None; Commissioner Nott took a few minutes to
introduce the Board of Police Commissioners and its functions to the students in attendance.
The minutes of the April 20, 2017 and May 25, 2017 meeting were read and Commissioner
Nott moved the minutes to be approved, Commissioner Chapman seconded the motion. All in
favor.
Correspondence- The Fall 2017 Seminar of the IL Fire & Police Commissioners
Association was brought to the table. Shall the Commissioners decide to go, they will handle on
their own accord.
Old Business- None.
New Business- Commissioner Nott briefly explained the Police Officer hiring process to
the public. The Commission then went on to review the 2017 Initial Eligibility List. Due to the
dwindling number of applicants in the recent years, the Commission discussed possible
amendments to the current legislation. These changes include; being open to all military personnel
granted an honorable discharge, changing the current list dates to better align with college
recruitment events, and changing the educational requirements. Commissioner Nott will speak to
the Commission Attorney to see what options are viable.

Plainfield Police Commissioners
Chief Konopek confirmed that the Police Department hopes to hire two applicants off this
coming list. If the budget is approved, they would be put into the Academy in April of 2018. The
list will be finalized at the November 16th Commission meeting.
The 2018 Commission budget was discussed. Commissioner Chapman motioned to
approve the current budget of $20,521.00. Commissioner Nott and Gardner seconded the motion.
All in favor.
Executive Session- No executive session was held. However, Commissioner Nott
explained to the public that the Executive session is an audio recorded session that is held without
audience, and used to discuss classified information.
There being no further business or discussion, Commissioner Nott moved the meeting be
adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
