Pedestrian Crossings State law requires that you must stop at any marked intersection, with or without lights, if there is a pedestrian attempting to cross. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Pedestrians PLEASE cross at marked crosswalks and always operate the lights. After pedestrians have cleared the intersection, vehicles October proceed without waiting for flashers to stop. Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! Please use the 2nd Ave bike route. Cyclists have all the responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Cyclists also have all the rights of motor vehicles. Drivers MUST provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist! Remember, the Butler Ave speed limit is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa. Hurricane Irma and FEMA information At this writing, the FEMA Disaster Recovery Assistance Center is located behind the Tybee Gym on Fifth Street, and they will remain open there through October 4th, at which time the center operations will move to a library location further inland. You may also visit https://www.fema.gov/disaster/4338 for information on how to file a claim. Pirate Fest Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day has come and gone. If you didn’t practice, it’s too late! Pirate Fest weekend begins October 5th, Thursday evening and continues until late Sunday. Please drive carefully during the festivities. Please make sure you are properly registered to vote by the final registration day, October 10th, so you will be able to cast your vote on election day, November 6th! Go to http://elections.chathamcount.org and click on the “My Voter Page” link to check your registration status, see where your voting site is located, and review sample ballots specific to your vote. To get on the agenda, file an Agenda Request with the City Clerk by noon, Wednesday, eight days prior to the Meeting! Council meets 2nd & 4th Thursday, 7PM, each month.
