Pedestrian Crossings Vehicles must stop at any marked intersection, with or without lights, if a pedestrian attempts to cross. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – assume a pedestrian is crossing. Pedestrians, PLEASE, use marked crosswalks and always operate the lights. After pedestrians clear the intersection, vehicles may proceed without waiting for flashers to stop. Cyclists, please, use 2nd Ave/Van Horn bike route. Cyclists have all responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Cyclists also have all rights of motor vehicles. Drivers must provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist! Remember, Butler Ave speed limit is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa. FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program The HMGP coordinator has been selected and will accelerate preparation and make the submittal for the City’s grant application, due Feb 1. The period to declare your intent to be included in this grant has expired. For those who have made the declaration of intent, details of the process and evaluations and construction estimates will be under way. Time to Renew… 2018 Locals Appreciation Cards are available in the Planning and Zoning office at no charge, for residents only. Business License Renewal notices have been sent out. Business licenses must be renewed by the end of March. Short-Term Rental registrations are due also by the end of March. If you have a vacation rental or B&B, you must register with City Hall. Tossing any type of yard debris, grass clippings or litter into the City’s inlets or ditches can clog pipes and cause blockages and flooding. Please use our trash service or bring your excess to the Polk Street transfer station. Yard trash pickup is every Friday, island-wide! Do you have a Homeowners Insurance Complaint?
