Pedestrian Crossings
Vehicles must stop at all marked intersections, with or without lights, if a pedestrian attempts to cross. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – assume a pedestrian is
crossing. Pedestrians, PLEASE, use marked crosswalks and always operate the lights. After pedestrians clear the intersection, vehicles may proceed without waiting for flashers to stop.
Cyclists, please, use 2nd Ave/Van Horn bike route. Cyclists have all responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Cyclists also have all rights of motor vehicles.
Drivers must provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist!
FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program
62 HMG packets were submitted. FC McColm has begun preparing paperwork for substantially damaged and repetitive loss properties. We are optimistic more properties will become eligible
as the process goes forward. Others whose homes are below base flood elevation may submit a packet, and we can still pass those on for potential future consideration as funds are made
available.
The packet with latest requirements is available at City Hall in Planning and Zoning, via an email request to gshaw@cityoftybee.org, or downloaded from our WebLink.
Homestead Exemptions
Applications must be filed each year to remain eligible for senior rates on utility bills and exemption from ad valorem taxes on real and personal property. The deadline for filing
for the Homestead Exemption is April 1. Individuals qualifying for the Homestead Exemption must, as of FEB 1, be 62 years old, have a total combined household income of less than $30,000
for 2017, own a Tybee home, and have legal residency here. Applications are available at City Hall or under the Forms Link on the City website. Forms must be submitted with a copy
of your 2017 tax return, or, if you do not file, a copy of your year-end 2017 Social Security Statement.
