Pedestrian Crossings Vehicles must stop at all marked intersections, with or without lights, if a pedestrian attempts to cross. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – assume a pedestrian is crossing. Pedestrians, PLEASE, use marked crosswalks and always operate the lights. After pedestrians clear the intersection, vehicles may proceed without waiting for flashers to stop. Cyclists, please, use 2nd Ave/Van Horn bike route. Cyclists have all responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Cyclists also have all rights of motor vehicles. Drivers must provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist! Mobility Mats Due to damage to the beach area from Irma, the wheelchair accessibility mats are currently located only at 2nd and at the center North Beach Crossover. Once the beach renourishment and repair project completes, the third mat will be restored to the 18th Street crossover. If you call to reserve a beach wheelchair, make arrangements with Ocean Rescue (in season) or the TIFD (until lifeguards go on duty) to meet you with the wheelchair. FEMA News All house raising grant applications have been submitted to the HMGP for review by FEMA. Homestead Exemptions Applications must be filed each year to remain eligible for senior rates on utility bills and ad valorem tax exemption on real and personal property. Deadline for filing for Homestead Exemption is April 1. To qualify, you must, as of FEB 1, be 62 years old, have a total combined household income of less than $30,000 for 2017, own a Tybee home, and have legal residency here. Applications are available at City Hall or under the Forms Link on the City website. Forms must be submitted with a copy of your 2017 tax return, or, if you do not file, a copy of your year-end 2017 Social Security Statement. Deadlines to Renew… Business licenses must be renewed by the end of March. Short-Term Rental registrations also are due by end of March. All vacation rentals & B&Bs, must register with Sharon Shaver, sshaver@cityoftybee.org or 912.472.5072. Not a deadline, but you can renew your Locals Appreciation card at the Development Authority/Main Street Office at City Hall. Bring your driver's license with your Tybee address. To Address City Council …about existing agenda items, please speak during public comments. To get on the agenda, file an Agenda Request with the City Clerk by noon, Wednesday, eight days prior to the Meeting! Council meets 2nd & 4th Thursday, 7PM, each month. Visit City Hall or our web site to obtain the form. If you are presenting to Council, you must provide your presentation no less than 48 hours in advance to Clerk or IT staff!
