The City Council of Medina, Minnesota met in special session on March 20, 2012 at
6:03 p.m. in the City Hall Chambers. Mayor Crosby presided.
I. ROLL CALL
Members present: Crosby, Martinson, Pederson, Siitari, and Weir.
Members absent:
Also present: City Planner Dusty Finke, Public Works Superintendent Steve Scherer,
and City Administrator Scott Johnson.
II. 2012 Employee Recognition Party
Scott Johnson provided the City Council with background on the Recognition Party. A
staff subcommittee had looked into holding the event at different sites in Medina. The
most cost effective location was Dobo's Restaurant. Council directed staff to set the
event date for December 6, 2012, use the budget amount to pay for employees for the
event per the Personnel Policy, and Council Members agreed to donate the remainder
to cover the non -employee expense for the event.
III. Review Draft City Vision and Plan for Resident Input
City Council discussed the proposed draft City Vision statement. The requested
changes will be incorporated into the document. Council requested public input on the
document. The document will be published in the next City Newsletter, will be placed on
the City Website, will be handed out at the March 27t Business Forum, and will be
distributed to the Uptown Hamel Business Group. The feedback will be brought to the
City Council at a future Work Session.
IV. Policy on Affordable Housing
Council Member Weir requested discussion on adding a policy on affordable housing.
Council discussed the issue and decided the City will encourage density with a range of
price points from lower to higher in new developments where appropriate zoning exists.
V. ADJOURN
Mayor Crosby adjourned the Work Session at 6:57 p.m.
