Pedestrian Crossings
Vehicles must stop at all marked intersections, with or without lights, if a pedestrian attempts to cross. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – assume a pedestrian is
crossing. Pedestrians, PLEASE, use marked crosswalks and always operate the lights. After pedestrians clear the intersection, vehicles may proceed without waiting for flashers to stop.
Cyclists, please, use 2nd Ave/Van Horn bike route. Cyclists have all responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Cyclists also have all rights of motor vehicles.
Drivers must provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist!
‘Tis the Season
It’s TOURIST SEASON! The tourists are here, and they will be focused on getting to the beach! Please exercise extra caution passing parked vehicles and crosswalks. The kids will be barely
under control! Remember you must stop for any pedestrian in any crosswalk!
It’s TURTLE SEASON! Make sure any beach-facing lights are masked or shaded so as not to be directly visible from our beaches. The first nest will be hatching in a short while, and your
limited lighting will help the hatchlings make it into the water successfully!
It’s HURRICANE SEASON! Get your emergency kit together. Prepare your evacuation plans. Discuss them with your family. Check out planning and emergency resources at www.cityoftybee.org/207/Emergency-M
anagement - click the links on the left side of the page for flood information, hurricane planning advice, how to register for assistance in an evacuation, the National Flood Insurance
Program, and what to do when severe weather approaches. Let’s hope we have limited impact from severe weather this season, but plan like there is going to be another evacuation this
year! Don’t delay. Tropical Storm Alberto has already passed, and hurricane season has just begun!
City Manager’s Morning In
City Manager Shawn Gillen is making regular Friday morning coffee meetings at the Tybean in Tybee Oaks. If you want to stop by to have a conversation, discuss city issues, make complaints,
give kudos for city staff, or make suggestions, stop in between 9 and 10 AM Fridays. You’ll have to take care of getting your own coffee, but share of mind with the CM comes free!
