It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – assume a pedestrian is crossing. Pedestrians, PLEASE, use marked crosswalks and always operate the lights. After pedestrians clear the intersection, vehicles may proceed without waiting for flashers to stop. Cyclists, please, use 2nd Ave/Van Horn bike routes. Cyclists have all the rights and responsibilities of vehicles, including stopping at stop signs! Drivers must provide 3’ clearance when passing a cyclist! Beach Bum Rules Beach Bum is Friday, May 18th, starting at 6:30 on the North Beach Lot and proceeding down Butler to the south end parking lots. If you are out, you’ll likely get wet! Everyone is there to have fun. If you are there to hurt people, you will not be welcome! No Bleach Water No Ice Water No Pressure Washers No Throwing Water Balloons or Buckets at People Don’t squirt the cops. It makes them mad. You'll get a ticket. Tybee Beach Bum Parade suggestions: When driving on and off Tybee during Beach Bum Celebration, keep your windows rolled up and doors locked. Pack your cameras, phones, or anything else electronic somewhere dry. They will get ruined. Ziploc Bags are awesome! Bring snacks that don’t get gross if they get wet. Fruit? Don’t squirt people that don’t look happy. Don't squirt inside people's cars if those cars are not in the parade. Watch your kids carefully. It gets rowdy on the south end. If you have small children, stick to mid island. If you don’t like to get wet, this is not what you are going to want to do. May is National Preservation Month Check out the Historic Tybee Island FB page to see and share photos of Tybee’s authentic styles that prove #thisplacematters during #presmonth and all year long.
