To the McCall City Council
Council members;
The Winter Recreation Forum, an advisory committee to the USFS McCall Ranger District, was pleased to
hear Colby Nielson say at our Decembe r 12th meeting that the Council will be discussing the process of
allo cating LOT funds during a January work session . It was very disappointing to learn that some of the
organizations w ith representation on our committee were dropped from LOT funding after they had
been previously told of their acceptance.
The current pract ice of dropping all funding from LOT recipients below a funded line when LOT funds
don 't meet expectations creates hardships on those lower ranked groups. Organizations make budget
plans based on expected LOT funds. We encourage you to reconsider your process. Why not distribute
the available funds proportionally to all winning recipients? This more balanced approach recognizes the
value all awarded groups provide to our community.
One such group is the Winter Trail System Program run by Valley County. It has been recognized for
years as a large economic driver to the businesses in the community and region. The LOT Committee has
a history of supporting services that provide access to winter recreation in McCall . We look forward to
hearing how the Council and the LOT Committee can continue to support all segments of our community and its re ~(!:ed e:?7 ~
