HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-Golf Department Report September 2020Monthly Department Report – Golf Course Memo To: City Council From: Eric McCormick, Golf Course Superintendent CC: Anette Spickard, City Manager Date: 10/1/2020 Re: Monthly Department Report – September 2020 1. Weather: September weather was all over the place. We did have a couple of rain events that brought heavy rain and gave us a chance to shut off irrigation the last half of the month. The smoke/haze didn’t seem to decrease play. 2. Staff: At the end of September, we had 3 full time staff plus 10 seasonal staff of which 5 of them are part time. We have had a couple of our full time seasonal’s out sick. 3. Greens: We decided to aerify the greens this fall because they were struggling with the number of rounds that we have had this season. We normally aerify in the spring before we open but were unable to do that because of the wet spring and staffing caused by COVID. We were able to get Aspen aerified the week of the 20th but we held off on Birch and Cedar until the next week because it turned out cool and wet. The last week of September was clear and warmer which helped us finish. 4. Club House I have funding in the FY21 budget to replace the roof on the clubhouse and have been checking to see if the roof is rated for comp shingles. John Powell helped me out and checked the plans and said that it is rated to do that. I have not checked the price difference between metal and comp, but it would sure help on winter shoveling if the roof didn’t unload on the deck and back steps all the time. I have also been working on getting the engineering done for the Ramp rebuild. Hoping to get the ramp and steps replaced this spring. 5. Revenue: Revenue all summer has been up for greens fees. Year to date we are $177,000 ahead of Budget. The restaurant revenue ended up $7,000 behind. They took a big hit being closed for a couple of months and almost got it back. Monthly Department Report – Golf Course 6. Equipment Maintenance: The equipment has been holding up nicely. It has been a huge benefit with all the other things going on, that we have been able to depend on the fleet. 7. Restaurant: Banyans was able to keep busy taking care of customers and serving on the deck. Because they had the tent up, they managed to book some new events. Rotary was back for a few weeks and they even picked up a wedding that was supposed to be in someone’s back yard but the rainy weekend forced them to move. 8. Asset Management/Master Plan: The asset management/master plan was completed and presented to council at the September 24th meeting. The maps that were not included in the packet are attached. 9. Tournaments September had our final tournament which was the 2 Man Scramble. It was full and had a waiting list. Had a bit of a frost delay but managed to get it done. 10. Irrigation Mother Nature helped us out the end of the month and we didn’t have to water at all except tow work in some sand after aerification.
