Golf - August 2023Monthly Department Report – Golf Course Memo To: City Council From: Eric McCormick, Golf Course Superintendent CC: Anette Spickard, City Manager Date: 9/6/2023 Re: Monthly Department Report –August 2023 1. Weather: August had two abnormally wet spells. 2. Staff: At the end of August, we were with 3 full-time staff plus 5 full-time seasonal and 10 part-time seasonal employees. The college and high school kids have all gone back to school. We still have a couple local high school kids working some weekends. 3. Greens: The problem greens still haven’t recovered. We still have 4 greens recovering from winter damage. We continued to spike every week to help them heal. Part of the problem is caused by shade. A few years back we cut some openings through trees on these same greens and the remaining trees have grown together. We will be opening some more light holes this fall and winter. 4. Aspen Tee Rebuild We received only one bid for Aspen tees and are hoping to get them done this September and October. The contract is with the city attorney. 5. Restaurant: Banyans say that they have been busy. They have had some staffing issues like everyone else but say they are doing ok. 6. Cart Paths We are still trying to come up with a way to fund the grinder to do paths. More to come. Monthly Department Report – Golf Course 7. Machinery Our equipment is holding up well and we are holding the line on our repair budget. Our mechanic is doing a great job of doing preventative maintenance and getting broken machines fixed and back into service. We have been told that the new lease equipment may not arrive until next summer so we will have to keep what we have running. 8. Clubhouse lift station The clubhouse lift station failed the weekend of one of our tournaments. We kept it running until an electrician could get here and bypass some of the switches. Part of the problem was caused by one of the lines from Idaho Power going down. This also caused us a problem with losing a motor in the irrigation pump station. We have put a priority on replacing the sewer lift station this fall. It has been in the CIP for several years and now has gotten moved to the front.
