INTERCHANGE 12
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret is bordered on the east by the New Jersey
Turnpike; and
WHEREAS, the primary means for vehicular access to and departure from the
Borough of Carteret for passenger vehicles and commercial trucks and tractor
trailers is via Interchange 12 on the New Jersey Turnpike; and
WHEREAS, the infrastructure comprising Interchange 12 is clearly outdated and
obsolete and not capable of servicing the level of traffic that presently passes
through the Interchange each and every day; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the unacceptable level of service currently provided by
the Interchange, residents of the Borough of Carteret, and visitors to the Borough
for both pleasure and commercial purposes, are forced to endure significant
hardship and unreasonable delays; and

the health, safety and welfare of the general public and serves as an impediment
to further commercial development and activity within Carteret and the
surrounding region; and

through the Interchange is destined for communities surrounding the Borough of
Carteret, including the Township of Woodbridge, the City of Rahway and the City
of Linden; and
WHEREAS, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority has proposed to implement and
construct Interim Improvements to Interchange 12 that are desperately needed to
serve not only the residents of Carteret but others destined to engage in
commercial activity both within the Borough and the surrounding communities.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the
Borough of C arteret, County of Middlesex, and State of New Jersey, as follows:
