HomeMy Public PortalAboutr 03:111No. 03-111 Date of Adoption lqarc_,h 18, 2003 ENDORSING NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE IMPROVEMENTS TO INTERCHANGE 12 WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret is bordered on the east by the New Jersey Turnpike; and WHEREAS, the primary means for vehicular access to and departure from the Borough of Carteret for passenger vehicles and commercial trucks and tractor trailers is via Interchange 12 on the New Jersey Turnpike; and WHEREAS, the infrastructure comprising Interchange 12 is clearly outdated and obsolete and not capable of servicing the level of traffic that presently passes through the Interchange each and every day; and WHEREAS, as a result of the unacceptable level of service currently provided by the Interchange, residents of the Borough of Carteret, and visitors to the Borough for both pleasure and commercial purposes, are forced to endure significant hardship and unreasonable delays; and WHEREAS, the present condition of Interchange 12 has a deleterious effect on the health, safety and welfare of the general public and serves as an impediment to further commercial development and activity within Carteret and the surrounding region; and WHEREAS, a substantial portion of the commercial truck traffic that passes through the Interchange is destined for communities surrounding the Borough of Carteret, including the Township of Woodbridge, the City of Rahway and the City of Linden; and WHEREAS, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority has proposed to implement and construct Interim Improvements to Interchange 12 that are desperately needed to serve not only the residents of Carteret but others destined to engage in commercial activity both within the Borough and the surrounding communities. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of C arteret, County of Middlesex, and State of New Jersey, as follows: 1. That the Mayor and Council hereby endorse and support the proposed Improvements for Interchange 12 and urge the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to implement and construct the same with all deliberate speed. 03-111 2. That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the governing bodies of the Township of Woodbridge, City of Rahway and City of Linden requesting that they similarly endorse this Turnpike improvement project for its benefit to the entire region. 3. That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor James McGreevey, State Senator Joseph Vitale, State Assemblyman John Wisniewski, State Assemblywoman Arlene Friscia and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
