HomeMy Public PortalAbout20180612 Memorial Park Plan Review AD HOC Committee MinutesMEMORIAL PARK PLAN REVIEW AD HOC COMMITTEE MEETING NOTES CITY OF TYBEE ISLAND Fire Department 512 Jones Ave June 12, 2018 1:00 pm Attendees: Shawn Gillen, George Shaw, Jackson Butler, Haley Hill, Angela Hudson City Manager Shawn Gillen called the meeting to order. The minutes to the May 10 meeting were approved. The committee discussed the overall plan for the park. There was discussion of a building annex next to City Hall, including a secure area. Chairman Jackson Butler stated that the city would lead by example in historic preservation. The committee discussed the possible uses of City Hall and a potential new building/annex. Parking, curb cuts and pavers around Memorial Park were discussed. The committee looked at the Fire Department and the possibility of the YMCA in the next building. The old fire department is an historical building. The committee agreed that the Fire Department is a priority. The Fire Department and possibilities for a facility/existing building(s) was discussed. The committee discussed the Y building and school facility. There is space needed for the school campus, possibly second level. The possibility of digitizing records and keeping archives off island was brought up. Chairman Butler and City Manager Shawn Gillen will meet with Mr. George Sweat about drawings with elevations and an aerial view of Memorial Park. Some of the goals of the committee are: Prioritize Prepare a 20 year Plan City Hall Fire Department SPLOST 2020 is coming. A project list should be compiled. When a definitive plan is in place, the committee with present it in the following order: Infrastructure Committee Public Safety Committee Council Public Meeting The committee will seek answers on the geothermal and its impact on the Memorial Park plan. The committee agreed to July 13, at 2:00pm for the next meeting. It will be held at the Fire Department. Shawn Gillen made a motion to adjourn. George Shaw seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned. A quorum of city council members may be present which would constitute a meeting.
