The City Council of Medina, Minnesota met in special session concurrently with the
Medina Planning Commission and Medina Park Commission on March 16, 2013 at 6:00
p.m. at the Hamel Community Building to conduct Nonpoint Education for Municipal
Officials through the University of Minnesota Extension Service.
I. ROLL CALL
Members present: Anderson, Pederson, and Weir.
Members absent: Crosby, Martinson
Also present: City Administrator Scott Johnson, Assistant to City Administrator
Jodi Gallup, Public Works Superintendent Steve Scherer, and City Planner Dusty Finke
II. Improving Water Quality through Effective Stormwater Management: The
Connection to Local Land Use Decisions
John Bilotta, University of Minnesota Extension, provided information to the participants
through the Watershed Game and discussed local resource concerns and challenges.
City Planner Dusty Finke and Public Works Director Steve Scherer provided an update
on the highlights of recent water quality projects in Medina.
The meeting ended with a discussion on policy issues. Staff received direction to look
into maintaining stormwater ponds in subdivisions, the need for access easements for
stormwater projects, and encouraging developments to use low maintenance
alternatives for grass areas.
