HomeMy Public PortalAbout03/30/78 Special CCMThe Council of the City of Medina met in special session on Thursday, March 30, 1978 39 at 7:30 P.M., with members of the Planning Commission to discuss the designation of a route for a North -South road through Medina to connect Co. Rd. 116 to State Highway 12. Members present: Mayor, Wayne Neddermeyer; Couneilmembers, Nancy Laurent, Thomas Crosby Also present: Planning Commission members; Emil Jubert, Anne Theis, Bernice Sipe, Jack Wahlfors, Will Bracken, Wayne Anderson; Public Works Director, Ronald Duran; Clerk, Donna Roehl; Planning and Zoning Adm., Jeanne Mabusth. Members discussed criteria established in 1970 regarding building of roads; Including the necessity of the City securing easements and paying for the surveying. Emil Jubert presented background of meetings he had attended in 1976. Ron Duran stated that Hennepin Co. wants the city to designate a route or routes somewhere in the corridor that had been selected. Steve Rood, representing Hennepin Co. Health and Welfare Council, owners of a large tract of land that could be affected stated that they would be opposed to a road dividing their property. He listed names of groups that use the areas for recreation and the fact that it is used as overflow from Co. Park for camping; Also that it is maintained by the Co. park district. He inquired as to the cities park plans and the fact that some day the area may be valuable as park land. His attention was called to the fact that there are "No Trespassing" signs on the property. He stated that they were put up some years ago to try to discourage vandals and the young people who were using the property for parties. Members designated 2 possible routes which will be discussed with Hennepin County. Mr. Rood stated that he would discuss the information with other members of the Health and Welfare Council.
