HomeMy Public PortalAbout2/08/1994 public hearing" CITY OF GREENCASTLE Public Hearing February 8, 1994 The City of Greencastle conducted a public hearing on Tuesday, February 8, 1994, at 7:00 p.m. at Tzouanakis Intermediate School, Linwood Drive, Greencastle. The session was called to order by Mayor Harmless. He then asked for any comments or questions. In response to questions from Council, Mr. Johnson indicated that the intent is to serve not only Putnam County residents, but others in need of shelter, also. He explained the preference for no time limit to a stay, but rather assistance with finding permanent residence outside the shelter. Discussion continued concerning the operating costs of the facility on annual basis. Mr. Johnson noted he estimated $70,000.00 " and will be applying for operational grants and other than public monies to maintain operations. He continued that the facility would be owned by the Greencastle Housing Authority. Kathy Woodbine expressed a concern about the eligibility levels for assistance at the shelter. She urged the GHA board to evaluate a way to provide shelter for someone in an abusive situation who is employed at an income level too high to be eligible yet too low to fund a move on their own. Discussion continued concerning time frame of the grant process, length of time for rehabilitation of the structure and estimated opening date of the facility.
