Advisory Task Force on Economic Development
Meeting Minutes
April 12, 2018
Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport Street
Attendees: Greg Schaefer, Cassie Vaughn, Lee Goodson-Hassert, Trustee O’Rourke, and no
members from the public.
Staff: Jake Melrose
The meeting was called to order at 7:34AM by Chairman Greg Schaefer.
Michael Konrad, Harold Oliver, Troy Strange, and Steven Preze was absent.
Public Comments: None.
Business Meeting
Minutes 11-8-17,1-10-18 approved: Lee Goodson-Hassert motioned to approve the minutes.
Seconded by Cassie Vaughn. Motion approved.
Mr. Melrose provided a summary of the proposed task force joint meeting with the Village Board
which would be held at a Committee of the Whole meeting.
Mr. Schaefer and Mr. O’Rourke provided some input in regards to some minor language
changes to the presentation.
The task force discussed potential dates in May and June. The dates of May 14th and June 25th
were the options. Staff would follow up with the task force to determine the best suited option
for the presentation.
Staff presented a draft copy and a summary of the hotel feasibility study that was approved in
October of 2017. Staff and the consultant, T.R. Mandigo, presented findings to the Village
Board at a February COW meeting. The study found that the village could support a three-star
upscale/limited amenity hotel with potentially 100 rooms.
Staff provided an update of its preparation for the RECon 2018 conference. Staff has identified
multiple retailers and hotel groups that will be attending the conference and currently setting up
meetings with these groups.
Staff presented the report for the potential idea of a business startup/entrepreneur program
where the village could partner with local small businesses and other programs in the area to
create some educational and incubator type programs.
Mr. O’Rourke provided an idea of having a corporate training/retail facility that could serve both
functions. Staff would research to see if there are examples already in use.
Staff provided an update on multiple projects in the Plainfield area.
