HomeMy Public PortalAboutMinutes - 6/7/2004 The Wellsburg City Council met in regular session June 7, 2004 with Mayor Fox presiding and Councilmen James, Lindaman, Meints and Nielsen present. Absent Van Heiden Motion by Nielsen second by Lindaman to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. All ayes, carried. Motion by Nielsen second by Meints to approve the Treasurer’s report for May. All ayes, carried. Motion by Lindaman second by James to approve the following bills for payment. All ayes, carried. The City Council felt they would be able to provide a rebate under an economic development grant. The amount and length of the rebate would be set at a latter meeting. Leon Abels and Merrill Lindaman were present to discuss department matters. Motion by James second by Lindaman to approve repairs to the culvert on the corner of Lincoln St. and 6th St. Cost to be $1800.00. All ayes, carried. Motion by Nielsen second by Lindaman to purchase an alarm system for the sewer treatment plant from How’gan Electric. Cost to be $1958.00. This price includes maintenance for the first year. After the first year maintenance will be $450.00 per year. Discussion of the problems with the water filter. Cost to remove and replace filter media to be approximately $17,300.00. No action was taken at this time. Gary Sindalar, City Engineer, will look into options for making the required repairs to the drinking water. Motion by Nielsen, second by James to have the engineer to proceed with the water survey. He will report back on the options. Sharon Harms and Pam Hook, Library Board presented the Library report. Discussion of the Library Building Project. Motion by Lindaman second by Nielsen to form a committee that will consist of two councilmen, the mayor and to at-large citizens. This group will name a new committee to take this project forward with the existing building. Ayes: James, Lindaman and Nielsen. Nays: Meints. Motion carried. Steve Nielsen and Gary James were appointed to sit on this selection committee. Motion by Meints second by James to approve extending the building permit for Casey’s General Store. All ayes, carried. The Mayor then declared the public hearing on the proposed FY 2004 budget amendment open. Being there were no oral or written objections, the Mayor then closed the public hearing. Motion by Nielsen second by Lindaman to approve Resolution 6-04 a resolution amending the City Budget for FY 2004. Roll call of votes. All ayes, carried. The Mayor proclaimed this, the month of June, 2004, as a celebration of life and as part of the fight against cancer in Grundy County with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Motion by Nielsen second by Meints to approve building permits for Terry Babcock and Alan Meyer. All ayes, carried. Motion by James, second by Lindaman to approve cigarette permits for Wellsburg Tap and Mike’s Supermarket. All ayes. Carried. Mike Nederhoff, Fire Chief, discussed placement of a retaining wall at the new fire station. The fire department is also looking to purchase a used pickup for use as a grass fire rig. The pickup will be purchased out of the donation fund. He is requesting that the City purchase a new skid unit for the pickup. Cost to be approximately $7,000.00. Motion by Nielsen second by James to transfer 90% of the remaining fire budget into the equipment fund CD. All ayes. Carried. Motion to adjourn Lindaman second by James. All ayes.
