Mayor Charles J. Hosti called the budget workshop /hearing
to order. Councilmen present: Jeff Dukes, Paul Jackson, Bill Walsh,
Jack Youmans, Pat Locklear and Jimmy Brown. Rowena Fripp, Patricia
Pagan and Jackie Brown were also present.
Mayor Hosti said that we would go over the budget line item
by line item. Mrs. Fripp explained that the income was higher because
she had made some calls to find out the exact amount of money that the
city would be getting from some companies. The revenues will be
$2,269,446.12 for General Fund and $631,557.48 for Water /Sewer. Mayor
Hosti questioned the Real Estate Digest income. Mrs. Fripp said the
auditor stated that we have somewhere around $45,000.* in delinquent
taxes owed the city. We will be doing Fi Fa's the first part of the
new year. Also added was $47,500.00 due the city from the Dune Stab-
ilization Project. $225,500.04 for the 1% sales tax for roads was
added as an in and out figure.
Councilman Youmans questioned the line item Travel /Registration
Officials saying that with Mayor's Day in January that it would not
cover the expenses. A line item titled Beautification /Landscape, this
will be for in kind services, fertilizer, grass seed, etc.
It was discussed and approved to pay Maddox and Assoc. the
balance owed for the plans for the Fire Station, Computer Software for
the Parking Department, and the bill for housing the prisoners at the
Chatham County Jail.
Bill Walsh made a motion to accept the 1990 budget and Jack
Youmans seconded. The vote was unanimous.
As there was no further business Mayor Hosti adjourned the
meeting.

*NOTE: The final figure at the end of FY '89 could have been as high as
$70,000. according to the auditor's prognosis. This worse case
scenario did not occur.
