At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council, held in the Coun- cil Chamber on March 23, 1936, there were present, E. N. Bradfield, mayor; Ros- coe B. Rhoads, Recorder; Herbert Howard, Harry F. Newton, V. Emory Plaster, Louis C. Rollins, Roger D. Shroy and Joseph H. Turley, Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The following bills were read, approved and ordered paid:- Virginia Public Service Co., (General Pumping) $181.16 (Harrison Pumping) 1.00 " e (Street Lights) 129.62 I " " (White Way) - 95.35 " TI " (Mayor's Office & Fire House) - 14.98 Leesburg Lime & Fuel Corporation, 49.55 Powhatan Brass & Iron Works, 14.00 J. T. Hirst, 2.52 Leesburg Automobile Co., 1.08 $489.26 Mayor Bradfield stated that he had appeared before' the Board of Super- visors, at its meeting held this date, in the interest of securing an appropria- tion towards the maintenance of the Fire Department, due to the department's an- swering so many alarms in the County. He stated that the Board had agreed to reimburse the respective communtties in the county for the use of their fire fighting equipment, at the rate of $1.00 per mile, the aggregate amount of money to be expended during the course of the year, not to exceed $500.00. Mr. Maurice Powell appeared before the Council, and complained about the drainage of surface water at his residence on south King street. It was moved by Councilman Plaster, duly seconded and carried, that the Mayor appoint e • a committee to confer with Mr. F. M. Yellott, Resident Engineer for the State _ Highway Department, with respect to relieving the situation and report back to the Council. Mayor Bradfield appointed Councilmen Howard, Rollins and Plaster. Town Sergeant Tho*psonreported that the gutter in front of the office of Col. E. E. Garrett broken, and it was moved by Councilman Newton, duly sec- onded and carried, that a committee be appointed to investigate the matter and having it repaired. Mayor Bradfield appointed Councilmen Newton, Shroy and Turley. Councilman Plaster reported the receipt of a letter from the State Health Department, in Richmond, advising that the town water was in excellent condition. It was moved by Councilman Newton, dimly seconded and carried, that 16. • the Town Sergeant beauthorized to purchase a car load of tar when needed. In compliance with the motion passed at the meeting of February 24, 1936, the following bids for the hauling of slops and garbage were received, opened and read:- Slops. Garbage. Slops & Garbage. T. George, 8 450.00 $785.00 $1150.00 On motion of Councilman Plaster, duly seconded and carried, the con- tract for the hauling of slops was awarded to T. S. Alexander, Leesburg, Va. On motion of Councilman Turley, duly seconded and carried, the con- - tract for the hauling of garbage was awarded to Edwin C. Myers, Leesburg, Va. It was moved by Councilman Howard, duly seconded and carried, that the Mayor and Town Attorney prepare and receive the contract and bond' of-Ed- win C. Myers, for the hauling of garbage. - There being no flarther business, on motion, the Council adjourned. MAYOR. - r .r te / 11 .a 00 RECORDER.—I— • At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council of the town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber on April 13, 1936, at 7:30 P. M., there were present, E. N. Bradfield, Mayor; Roscoe B. Rhoads, Record- er; HariyrF. Newton, W. Emory Plaster, Louis- C. Rollins and Joseph H. Turley, Councilmen. Town Attorney Stilson H. Hall and Town Auditor S. Reed Galleher xwere also in attendance. The reading of the minutes were dispensed with. The Mayor announced the sudden death' of Councilman Roger D. Shroy, which occurred this afternoon (April 13, 1936), and stated that out of respect for the deceased member, the meeting would be continued until Friday, April 17, 1936, at 7:30 P. M. - Councilman Turley offered a resolution, which was duly seconded and carried, that a committee be appointed to prepare resolutions of respect for the late Councilman Roger D. Shroy, that a copy of samb be spread upon the minutes, a copy sent to the family of the deceased and a copy to the press. On motion of Councilman Plaster, duly seconded and carried, the same committee was authorized to procure a suitable floral design. The Mayor appointed the following committee:- Joseph H. Turley, Louis C. Rollins and Roscoe B. Rhoads.
