HomeMy Public PortalAbout1936_06_22'/ /2 8 At a regular meeting of the Mayor sad Town Council of the town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber on Monday, Jane 22, 1936, at 8:00 P. M., there were present; E. N. Bradfield, Mayor; Roscoe B. Rhoads, Recorder; Herbert Howard, Lawrence S. Hutchison, Harry F. Newton, Louis C. Rollins and Joseph H. Turley; Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Mayor Bradfield announced the sudden death of late Councilman W. En- I ory Plaster,•which occurred on Friday, June 19th, 1936, and stated that a suit- able floral emblem had been ordered. It was moved by Councilman Howard, duly seconded and carried, that a committee be appointed to draft resolutions of respect to the memory of late • Councilman Plaster, that same be spread upon these minutes of our meeting and that they published in the Loudoun Times-Mirror. The Mayor appointed Joseph H. Turley, Louis 0. Hollins and Roscoe B. Rhoads. RESOLUTION. WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom, has seen fit to again send His messenger of death to the Town Council of Leesburg, in Vir- ginia, and remove from our midst our venerable fellow-councilman, W. Emory Plaster, and WHEREAS, Councilman Plaster bas most faithfully served his community as a consistent member of the Town Council of Leesburg, in Virginia, for many many years. Throughout these many years of con- tinuous service he has never been defeated for office. He was a - most arduous worker, and never shirked a roll call-nor dodged an is- sue. His conclusions were reached after the most thoughtful and I careful consideration, and when made were firmly adhered to, regard- less of consequences. He knew and was fully informed upon all the details in connection with the duties of a Councilman. NOW,THEAEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of.Lees- burg, in Virginia, expresses its profound sorrow in the death of W. .Emory Plaster, late a member of that body. . RESOLVED, that we join with other agencies and offer this tribute to his high character and distinguished public service. RESOLVED, that a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of our Council, a copy sent to the family of the deceased and a copy.published in the Loudoun Times-Mirror. On motionof Councilman Howard, duly seconded and carried, the Record- er was ordered to totify the Auditor to issue a warrant for the services of late I Councilman Plaster, payable to Mrs. Plaster, to July 1, 1936. Mr. James B. Anderson, representing a committed from .the Leesburg Fire Company, appeared before the Council, and asked permission to use the Christmas garlands, belonging to the town, for lighting purposes at the Firemen's Carnival. Upon motion of Councilman Turley, duly seconded and carried, the request was granted. 29 The following bills were read, approved and ordered paid:- Stilson H. Turley, 12.60 Loudoun Times Publishing Co., -27.35 $266.45 ' On motion of Councilman Newton, duly seconded and carried, the Town Sergeant was instructed to issue Dew Drop Inn a 3.2 Beer License for the ensuing year for the sum of $10.00 It was moved by Councilman Rollins, duly seconded and carried, that East South Street be repaired and oiled, beginning at Fry's corner and continuing to the end of the street. There being no further business, on motion the Council adjourned. MA OR. 410, REOJRDER.
