Turley, 12.60 Loudoun Times Publishing Co., -27.35 $266.45 ' On motion of Councilman Newton, duly seconded and carried, the Town Sergeant was instructed to issue Dew Drop Inn a 3.2 Beer License for the ensuing year for the sum of $10.00 It was moved by Councilman Rollins, duly seconded and carried, that East South Streetbe repaired and oiled, beginning at Fry's corner and continuing to the end of the street. There being no further business, on motion the Council adjourned. y MR. RE W RDER. • At. a regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council of the town of Lees- burg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber on Monday, July 13, 1936, at 8:00 P. M., there were present, S. N. Bradfield, Mayor; Roscoe B. Rhoads, Recorder; Herbert Howard, Lawrence S. Hutchison, Harry F. Newton, Louis C: Rollins and Jos- eph H. Turley, Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The following bills were read, approved and ordered paid:- Virginia Public Service Co., (Mayor's Office &''Fire House) - - $ 9.20 " (General Pumping) 208.29 " " ^ (Harrison Pumping) 11.46 ^ " ^ (Street Lighting) 129.62 " " (White Way Lighting) 95.35 Purcell & Littlejohn, 15.00 Leesburg Lime & Fuel Corporation, 206.13 L. T. Fry, — 20.00 Joseph H. Turley, 15.45 Earl L. Poston, 7.35 General Electric Co., .68 L. T. Cooksey, 10.00 M. D. Atwell, 10.00 Bituminous Products, Corporation, - - - - 120.00 Loudoun Times Publishing Co., 1.80 Westinghouse Electric Supply Co., 1.00 S. S. Adrian, Jailor, (Town Prisoners) 100.75 $ 962.08 On motion of Councilman Newton, duly seconded and carried, it was or- dered that one of the Water Bonds, in the amount of $1,000.00, be paid off, with h • interest to August 1, 1936. A letter of appreciation from Mr. W. Emory Plaster, Jr., was read to the Council, and upon motion of Councilman Turley, duly seconded and carried, the same was ordered spread upon the minutes of this meeting. Dear Sir: Mother and I want you, the town Recorder and the town council to know how very much we appreciate the beau ' tifal wreath and kind message of sympathy which you sent us at the time of our bereavement. Father always enjoyed *orking with all of you on the council and the welfare of the town of Leesburg was one of his greatest interests. We are hoping that his success- or in your group will be one with as great an interest in the progress of the town. Again, let me thank you for Mother and myself for the kindness that you have shown us. Very truly yours, W. Paul be can- celled. j 35 It was moved by Councilman Rollins, duly seconded and carried, that the request of Nightwatohman George Newton for his usual vacation beginning July 26th, be granted. On motion of Councilman Turley, duly seconded and carried, it was or- dered that a suitable substitute be appointed/to serve as nightwatchman during Mr. Newton's vacation. Town Sergeant Thompson was granted his usual vacation, beginning Aug. 10th, on motion of Councilman Howard, duly seconded and carried. Following an explanation by the Town Sergeant that Mr. B. Ash Herndon did only a small automobile repair business, procuring most of his repair.. parts, etc., from the other garages in Leesburg and at a smaller discount, it was moved by Councilman Howard, duly seconded and carried, that his license for the year be set at'$15.00. On motion of Councilman Rollins, duly secondedandunanimously car- ried, arried, the' following Ordinance was passed:- BE IT ORDAINED: That it shall be unlawful for any person or persons to hold a public dance in the town of Leesburg, in Vir- ginia, unless the person or persons holding such dance, shall, at _his own expense, provide a .pblice officer to be present during the dance, which officer shall be acceptable to and shall be sworn in by the Mayor before said dance is held; and further that all pub- lic dances shall be closed not later than 1:00 A. M (Saturdays at ' 12:00 P. M. ), and remain closed until 7:00 A. M. Any person violating this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not less than"ten dollars nor more than fifty dollars for each offense. ' It was moved by Councilman Howard, duly seconded and carried, that the Recorder be instructed to write the State Health Department, at Richmond, Virginia, requesting that a representative of that department be sent to Lees- burg to advise ways and'means of controlling mosquitoes. The Mayor declared nominations open to fill the vacancy in the Coun- cil, caused by the death of the late Councilman W. Emory Plaster. Councilman Hutchison placed in nomination the name of Mr. Roy M. Flippo, which was second- a -�_ ed by Councilman Turley. Councilman Rollins then placed in nomination the name of Mr. T. W. Carter, which was seconded by Councilman Howard. On motion of Councilman Howard, duly seconded and carried, the nominations were closed. The Council was then polled, Councilmen Newton, Hutchison and Turley voting for Mr. Flippo and Councilmen Rollins and Howard voting for Mr. Carter. On motion of Councilman Rollins, and seconded by Councilman Howard, which motion received the affirmative votes of Councilmen Newton, Hutchison, Howard, Turley and Rollins, Mr. Roy M.
