HomeMy Public PortalAbout1936_08_10 34 k • At a regular-meeting of the Mayor and Town Council, of the town of Lees- burg; in Virginia, held in the Ceunoil Chamber, in Leesburg, Virginia, on Monday, August 10, 1936, at 8:00 P. M., there were present^E. N. Bradfield';•Mayor; Roscoe B. Rhoads, Recorder; and Roy M. Flippo, Herbert Howard, Harry F. Newton, Louis C.• 'Rollins and Joseph, H.• Turley, Councilmen. • L '. The minutes of the last meeting were.-read• and approved. Miss Louise Harrison again appeared before the Council with respect to ]A matter of furniehiia water for Llangollen School, which was laid upon the table from the last meetixg of the Council, and after quite some discussion, it was moved by Councilman Howard, duly seconded and unanimously carried, that the water line be extended from the property of Mr. Rufus Wren to Llangollen School, pro- vided the consent of the property owners (Messrs. George R. Hughes, Harry T. Shry and Rufus Wren) and the necessary rights of way can be obtained, and that the cost of.project shall not exceed one hundred dollars ($100.00). It was also moved by Councilman Howard, duly seconded and carried, that a committee be appointed to carry out the provisions of the Llangollen School water proposition. Councilmen Rollins, Flippo and Turley were appointed. Town Sergeant Thompson reported that recent winds had blown a large number of the shingles from the roof of the water tank, It was moved by Conn- oilman Howard, duly seconded and carried, that the matter of repairing the roof be attended to at once, under the supervision of the Water Committee. On motion of Councilman Howard, duly seconded and carried,the Town Sergeant was authorized to purchase ten (10) gallons of Zone Paint. Councilman Howard reported that he had had an interview with Mrs. Maud E. Caviness with respect to constructing a sewer line through her property to the Town Branch, but was unable to get her consent to do'so1' - _ Upon motion of Councilman Newton, duly see cnied! and carried, it was ordered that Wirt Street, between Loudoun and Cornwall Streets, be made a one way street; traffic moving northward, and that the Town Sergeant be instructed to purchase the two signs necessary. . A letter from Mr. L. T. Fry was read to the Council, in which he ex- plained that he had made an error of $5.00 when rendering his:bill for repairs , to the town cart, and upon motion of Councilman Rollins, duly seconded and car- ried, it was ordered that the balance be paid. •• • A letter from the Department of Highwayd, with attached map and_de • - scriptive sheets of the streets of the town of Leesburg that will be taken into the Secondary System of Highways was read to the Council and showed the follow- ing: Market Street - - - - 0.43 miles. 'femetary- Street•"=-=-- 0:08 Miles. North Street- - -• - - 0.34 miles. Total- - - - 0.85 miles. Cooksey,- 10.00 M. D. Atwell, 47.50 $928.97 r: 35 • Councilman Rollins reported that the room in the Town Hall Building had been vacated by Mr. G. W. Hume, his rent having been paid in full, and that the room had been rented to Mr. Gordon E. Warner, for the use as a pool and billiard room, at a rental of $20.00 per month. There being no further business, on motion, the Council adjourned. 961 . V MAYOR. /4 REODRDER. At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council, of the town of Lees- burg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber, in Leesburg, Virginia, on Monday, August 24, 1936, at 8:00 P. M., there were present E. N. Bradfield, Mayor; Roscoe B. Rhoads, Recorder; and Roy M. Flippo, Herbert Howard, Lawrence S. Hutchison, Harry F. Newton, Louis C. Rollins and Joseph H. Turley, Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Mr. L. Clark Hoge appeared before the Council in the interest of the Vir- ginia Skyline Drive National Battlefield Park Tour. He stated that the Council had voted the sum of $25.00 last year towards the project and solicited a like contribution this year. ' On motion of Councilman Rollins, duly seconded and car- ried, the sum of $25.00 was contributed. On motion of Councilman Howard, duly seconded and unanimously carried, the following Ordinance was passed:- v) BE IT ORDAINED: That all persons licensed to sell alcoholic beverages in the town of Leesburg, in Virginia, shall refrain from selling alcoholic beberages or permitting the consumption of the same upon the licensed premises between the hours of 1:00 A. M. and 5:00 A. M each day of the week, except Saturday, on which day the hours shall be between twelve midnight and 5:00 ,x. M. the next ensuing day. Any person violating this ordinance shall be pun- ished by a fine of not less than Five Dollars ($5.00 ) nor more • than Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00). On motion of Councilman Rollins, duly seconded and carried, it was or- dered rdered that one of the Water Bonds, in the amount of $1,000.00, be paid off, with interest to 6eptember 1, 1936. It was moved by Councilman Rollins, duly seconded and carried, that 7` town water be furnished Miss Catherine Garrett, at her suburban residence, pro- vided proper permissions be granted, and that the water line be laid at no ex- pense whatever to the town of Leesburg, On motion of Councilman Rollins, duly seconded and carried, it was au- thorized that four (4) additional mem be employed to clean all ditches in the • town at once, and that a truck be hired to haul away the rubbish. It was moved by Councilman Newton, duly seconded and carried, that the Town Sergeant be instructed to carry out the above resolution, with the assistance of Councilman Rollins. - On motion of Councilman Turley, duly seconded and carried, the follow- ing letter was ordered embodied in the minutes od this meeting:-
