HomeMy Public PortalAbout1936_12_14 46 At a regular meeting of .the Mayor and Town Council of the town of Lees- burg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber, in Leesburg, Virginia, on Monday, November 23, 1936, at 7:30 P. M., there were present E. N. Bradfield, Mayor; Ros- coe B. Rhoads, Recorder; and Roy M. Flippo, Herbert Howard, Lawrence S. Hutchi- son, Louis C. Rollins and Joseph H. Turley, Councilmen. . The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. It was moved by Councilman Rollins, seconded by Councilman Hutchison, and unanimously carried, that, if it were agreeable to the property owners, the trees in front of the propeaities of the executors of the Norris estate and Mr. Chester Cooksey, located at .#313 and 315 West Loudoun Street, be removed. On motion of Councilman.Turley, seconded by Councilman Flippo, it was ordered that the dead tree in front of the property of Mrs. India Titus, 401 North Ring Street, be removed. All Councilmen voted favorably. It was moved by Councilman Hutchison, seconded by Councilman Flippo, and dnanimously carried, that the special policeman appointed to patrol Loudoun and Wirt Streets be discontinued after November 30, 1936. The following bill was read, approved and ordered paid:- Neptune Meter Co., -$ 17.52 On motion of Councilman Rollins, Seconded by Councilman Turley, and unanimously carried,, it was ordered that one of the Water Bonds, in the amount of $1,000.00, with interest to December 1, 1936, be retired. No further bossiness claiming attention, on motion, the meeting ad- journed. YOR. t. M., there were present E. N. Bradfield, Mayor; Ros- coe B. Rhoads, Recorder; and Roy M. Flippo, Herbert Howard, Lawrence S. Hutchi- son, Harry F. Newton, Louis C. Rollins and Joseph H. Turley, Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. • On motion of Councilman Turley, seconded by Coundilman Newton, and un-- animously carried, it was ordered that Mr. Stilson H. Hall be retained as Town Attorney until September 1, 1937, at an annual salary of $100.00.- It 100.00.It was moved by Councilman Howard, seconded by Councilman Turley, and unanimously carried, that Mr. Stilson H. Hall be paid the sum of $100.00 for services as Town Attorney from December 1, 1935 to December 1, 1936. Town Sergeant Thompson reported a leak in the roof of the Town Hall property, and upon motion of Councilman Newton, seconded by Councilman Howard, and unanimously carried, it was ordered that the Town Hall Committee have the leak repaired at once. On motion of Councilaman Rollins, seconded by Councilman Howard, and unanimously carried, the sum of $60.00 was appropriated for a suit of clothes and overcoat for the Town Sergeant. It was moved by Councilman Newton, seconded by Councilman Howard, and unanimously carried, that, in the future, the Town Sergeant and Night Watchman be compelled to wear their uniforms while on duty. - After quite some discussion, it was moved by Councilman Howard, seconded by Councilman Hutchison, and unanimously carried, that the Recorder correspond with • the State Auditor and at least two other Certified Public Accountants and ascer- tain the cost of auditing the books of the town for the past four years. On motion of Councilman Rollins, seconded by Councilman. Turley, and unanimously carried, the Town Sergeant was instructed to construct a concrete curb in front of the property of Mr. Loyd Slack, at .203 Fayette Street. Also on motion of Councilman Rollins, seconded by Councilman Howard, and unanimously carried, it was ordered that the wooden curbing in front of the property of John Walker, 301' South Church Street, be repaired. It was moved by Councilman Rollins, seconded by Councilman Newton, and unanimously carried, that the public Toilet, in the rear of the Town Hall prop- erty, be repaired at once and opened for a period of thirty (30) days. Also on motion of Councilman Rollins, seconded by Councilman Hutchison, and unanimously carried, Mr. Arthur Hough, town employee, be instructed to keep the public toilet clean, at a salary of $3.00 per week. Mayor Bradfield stated to Council that he was having considerable dif- ficulty in procuring suitable men to serve as special policemen, especially at this season of the year, whereupon, it was moved by Councilman Hutchison, sec- onded by Councilman Newton, and unanimously carried, that the question of em- ploying special policemen during the Christmas Holidays, as to hours and rates, be left in the hands of the Mayor. It was moved by Councilman Newton, seconded by Councilman Howard, and unanimously carried, that the Night Watchman be instructed to notify residents to place a light at obstructions in the streets and sidewalks, at nights. Saffer & Bro., 15.03 Leesburg Lime & Fuel Corporation, 82.51 Rumsey Pump Corp., 241.63 - Town Sergeant (For 25 Firemen @ $20.00 each) 500.00 $1403.60 On motion of Councilman Turley, seconded by Councilman Newton, and un- animously carried, it was ordered that one of the Water Bonds, in the amount of 1 $1,000.00, with interest to December 15, 1936, be retired. The parts having arrived, it was moved by Councilman Howard, seconded by Councilman Newton, and unanimously carried, that the Water Committee be in- structed to have the pump repaired. • - There being no further business, on motion, the meeting adjourned.
