Adrian, Jailor, (Town Prisoners) 173.50 Whitmore & Armfield, 207.50 • $944.54 On motion of Councilman Turley, seconded by Councilman Newton, and un- animously carried, it was ordered that one of the Water Bonds, in the amount of $1,000.00, with interest to January 15, 1937, be retired. The recorder read a letter from the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce, requesting a donation of $25.00 to be used in a campaign to attract northern in- dustries to establish plants throughout the state. It was moved by Councilman Turley, seconded by Councilman Newton, and unanimously carried, that the Water Committee be instructed to have the auxil- liary pump repaired. I There being no further business, on motion, the Council adjourned. / MAYOR. Leat-e-ilifie.4-e- Cil RECORDER— • At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council of the town of Lees- burg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber, on Monday, January 25, 1937, at 7:30 P. M., there were present E. N. Bradfield, Mayor; Roscoe B. roads, Record- er; and Roy M. Flippo, Herbert Howard, Lawrence S. Hutchison, Harry F. Newton and Joseph H. Turley, Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. On motion of Councilman Howard, seconded by Councilman Hutchison, and unanimously carried, Dr. James T. Jackson was granted parking space in front of his residence at #205 North King Street. • The following bills were read, approved and ordered paid:- Virginia Public Service Co., (General Pumping) $201.55 " . Turley, 17.00 $243.61 Councilman Hutchison offered the following resolution, which was 50 • seconded by Councilman Howard, and unanimously carried:- BE IT RESOLVED, by the Leesburg Town Council, .that the Mayor of the toren of Leesburg, in Virginia, shall be allowed expenses in the sum of $350.00 for the period- beginning March 1, 1936, and ending September 1, 1937, one- half of which said sum shall forthwith be paid to the said Mayor and the remaining one-half shall be paid on August 31, 1937. • In discussing the resolution providing for expenses to be allowed the Mayor, it .was stated that for many years the Mayor, with the consent of the Coun- cil, retained as a part of his salary, fees for trying violations of town ordi- nances; that recently the Council was advised of a state law that requires mayors of towns to pay into the treasury of the town, all fees for such services render- ed by him; that when the salary of the Mayor was fixed, the Council was of the opinion that such officer was legally entitled to retain fees collected for trial of violations of town ordinances; that the present mayor offered himself for elec- tion, believing he was entitled to fees in addition to the salary fixed by the Council; and that it was to be assumed the citizens of the town were of the •same opinion. It was stated that in fairness to the present Mayor the resolution for providing expenses should be adopted. It was moved by Councilman Turley, seconded by Councilman Howard, and unanimously carried, that the sum of $25.00 be contributed to the local Red Cross for flood relief control.
