In discussing the resolution providing for expenses to be allowed the Mayor, it .was stated that for many years the Mayor, with the consent of the Coun- cil, retained as a part of his salary, fees for trying violations of town ordi- nances; that recently the Council was advised of a state law that requires mayors of towns to pay into the treasury of the town, all fees for such services render- ed by him; that when the salary of the Mayor was fixed, the Council was of the opinion that such officer was legally entitled to retain fees collected for trial of violations of town ordinances; that the present mayor offered himself for elec- tion, believing he was entitled to fees in addition to the salary fixed by the Council; and that it was to be assumed the citizens of the town were of the-same opinion. It was stated that in fairness to the present Mayor the resolution for providing expenses should be adopted. It was moved by Councilman Turley, seconded by Councilman Howard, and unanimously carried, that the sum of $25.00 be contributed to the local Red Cross for flood relief control. - There being no further business, on motion the Council adjourned.
