Joint Meeting of the Landmarks & District Designation and Public Outreach Subcommittees
Record of Minutes Date: July 5, 2018 Location: Village Hall
CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL Commissioner Hagen called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Roll call was taken: Commissioners
Hagen, Olsen, Rapp, and Chairman Bortel were present. Commissioners Barvian, Derrick, Hendricksen,
Lucas, and Schmidt were absent. Also in Attendance: Kendra Kuehlem, Associate Planner.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The LDDC and Public Outreach Joint Meeting minutes dated June 7, 2018 were approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Residential Rehabilitation Grant Language
Chainman Bortel indicated that the Village Administrator is opposed to it and some Village Board Members voiced concerns about members of the HPC applying for the grant. Chairman Bortel suggested
adding verbiage stating HPC members can not apply for the grant. Commissioner Olsen indicated that she does not agree with excluding HPC members and explained why. Chairman Bortel suggested to meet with the Village Administrator and the Village Board to discuss this issue further.
Historic Guideline Manual No update.
Updating Preservation Watch List
Chairman Bortel stated he has been working on the list and asked the commissioners to spend any
additions to him.
24120-24122 W. Lockport St. – Meeting with E. Mattox
No update.
Sanctuary Restaurant at Trolley Barn Ms. Kuehlem indicated the last she was aware they finished pouring the concrete floor.
24029 W. Lockport St. No update. 24018 W. Lockport St. – Baci’s Chairman Bortel indicated last he heard there was a possible buyer who would use the building to sell antiques or antique furniture restoration.
R. Baker’s Project – Dillman/Joliet Road
Chairman Bortel stated the Baker’s will be proceeding with this house. NEW BUSINESS
Sprinkler Grant Proposal
Chairman Bortel reviewed the minutes from the June 25th COW meeting. Chairman Bortel stated he thought that the grant was going to be 20% not 10%. Chairman Bortel indicated that the grant should be
available to BTD properties, commercial properties in historic district, & contributing properties.
Commissioner Olsen stated that the grant should be 10% from each entity. Chairman Bortel indicated the grant should be 10% from the Village and 15% from the fire district.
Revisit BTD in October Chairman Bortel suggested holding another BTD event in October and November at the Village Hall and
creating a flyer for the realtors.
