HomeMy Public PortalAbout1938_03_28 120 March 28 , 1938 At a reguar meeting of the -t:MIayor and Town Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia held: in -the Council Chamber on Monday " • March 28 , 1938 at 7 :30 P. M.• there- were present ; Lucas D. Phillips , Mayor ; Louis T . Titus , Fedorder ; Roy M. Flippo , Bohn T. Hourihane , Lawrence S. Hutchison , L. C . Rollins , J. D. Taylor and Joseph B. Turlay Councilmen. _ The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved . • • Mr . B. P. Harrison Jr appeared before the council in the interest of writing insurance on the fire .tru.cks and the pick-up truck. The lkecorder read -letters quoting cots of liability and prtperty damage and fire and theft insurance on the fire trucks -and the pick-up trucks respecively, from Whitmore and Armfield and The Eleven Realty Company . No action was taken in regard tit the above insurance. Mrs. Fannie Feaster appeared to ask the Council to 'allow her to get water from the property of someone else and she would pay the town some small compensation for this privelege . She was informed that the matter would be investigated and she would be advised. • The Recorder read a letter froth the Loudoun County Garden Club-asking the Council to take action to abate the nuisance of trash being spilled upon the streets of Leesburg by trucks. Opon motion of Councilman Turley , seconded by Councilman Hutchison and unanimously carried , the following Resolution was passed ; WHEREAS , Mr. N. F. Cooke , Town Manager of the Town of Manassas , Virginia , and an assistant have recently made a • thorough inspection of.' the town of Leesburg ' s water tank and understructure ; and made a report of their findings tc the Council of the town of Leesburg : C" - N0W THEREFORE BE IT UNAIN'IMOUSLY RESOLVED , by- the Council of• -the Town of Leesburg , in. Virginia , that, the Mayor and Council of • the Said town wish to express their appreciation to Mr. H. F. • .Cocke , Town Manager of. the Town of Manassas , Virginia , and his assistant for their valuable services in inspecting the water tank and understructure of the town of Leesburg , and making a report of th,e same to the said Council. -. BE UT. FURTHEE RESMLVED, by the said Mayor and Council of the Town of I:eesbufg- in Virginia that the Recorder be and he is hereby. ins.tructed to mail a copy of this Resolution to Mr. W. F. Cocke , Manassas , Virginia . 1;r. L. T_: Fry appeared- as a committee form the Leesburg Fire Company to ask that the Council have a door be cut from the Fire House to the Fire Company Recreation Room in addition to the - _ repairs to the front entrance doors of.{the Fire House asked for at the last meeting of the Council. The matter of any repairs to the Fire House were laid on the table for- further investigation. It was moved by Councilman Turle,y seconded by Councilman Hourihane and unanimously carried that the following Ordinance be adopted ; BE IT ORDAII-ED B; , the Council of the Town of Leesburg ; in Virginia , that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and instructed and directed to purchase one 16 inch lawn mower . On motion of Councilman „Rollins seconded by Councilman Turley and unanimously carried :; the following Ordinance was adopted ; 121 • BE IT ORDAINED , by the Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized , instructed and directed to repair the gutter , by • laying concrete pipe underground , on the West side of South King Street between the i;ashtngton Coca .Cola Bottling Works' • premises and the town branch. There being no further business , On motion duly made , seconded and carried the Council adjourned . • 1 ' 1.1-AY fe�' '�' RECORDER • • • April 5 , 1938 At a Special meeting of the Mayor and Ton Council of the town of Leesburg , in Virginia held in the Council Chamber on Tuesday April 5 , 1938 at 7 :30 P. M. there were present ; Lucas D. Phtllips , Mayor ; Louis T. Titus ,necorder , Roy M. Flippo , J. T. Hourihane , Lawrence S. Hutchison, L. C: Rollins add Joseph E. Turley , Council- men. The, minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved . There^were^no objections to the proposed Budget _ Ordinance presented to the Council by the Finance Committee on March 14 , 1936 and recently published in The Loudoun Times Mirror a newspaper published in the town of Leesburg , Virginia . ( Found on page 149 of the minutes ) The Recorder read the proposed Tax and License Ordinance for the fiscal year beginning July 1 , 1938 and ending June 30 , 1939 . Mr. Westmoreland Davis appeared and made the Council an offer to publish the aforesaid Tax and License Ordinance in The Loudoun Times Mirror , a newspaper published in the Town of Leesburg , Virginia for the sum of one dollar ( $1 .00) . The said offer was made as a standing one . On motion of Councilman Turley seconded by Councilman Flippo and unanimously carried ,the matter of publication of the above mentioned Tax and License Ordinance was laid on the table until the next meeting .
