McDonald and Mr. James di Zerega appeared as a committee from the Leesburg Fire Company in regard to enlarging the present fire house . . Upon motion of Councilman Hourihane seconded by Councilman Rollins and unanimously carried the matter of enlarging the fire house was referred to the Building Committee. On motion of Councilman Turley seconded by Councilman Hourihane and unandmoufly carried the following Resolution was adopted ; • • BE IT. RESOLVED, by the Council of \the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia , that the authorized and Aditor Treasurer be and he is hereby instructed to pay the following bills ; W. Darley & Co. - $ 42:28 Garlock Packing Company - - - - - \ 9 :47 Total $ 51. 75 • Upon motion of Councilman -Flippo seconded by Councilman Oliver andunanimously carried the foil wimp Resolution was adopted ; BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia , that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to pay the following bills from the • "Firemen' s Equipment Fund" . Mine Safety Appliance Company - - - - $141.56 (Gas Maliks & First Aid Kits) • On motion of Councilman Flippo seconded by Councilman Oliver and unanimously carried , an Ordinance was passed declaring it unlawful for a prisoner to flee from custody of an officer under penalty of fine and imprisonment. Council Camber on Tuesday, May 23, 1939 at 8; 00 P. M. there were present; Lucas D. Phillips , Mayor , R. M. Flippo , J.T.Hourihane , J. L. Oliver , L.C.Eollins and J.H.Turley, Councilmen . • Upon motion of Councilman Oliver , seconded by Councilman Hourihane and voted upon as follows ; FOR , J .L.OLIVER; J.H.TURLEY; J.T . HOUEIHENE ,&L.C .ROLLINS ; AGAINST ; NONE. ( Couflcilman, Flippo not voting) , the following Resolution was adopted ; • 220. • • • BE IT RESOLVED, By the Council of the Town of- Leesburg , in Virginia , that the Veterans of Foreign Wars be and they are. are - hereby granted permission to exhibit a carnival within the cor- porate limits for a period of 8. days during the month of. June ; 1939 , without being required to pay the license tax imposed' by the Tax Ordinance of the town. There being no futther btsiness , on motion duly made , seconded and carried , the 6ouncil adjourned. yJ., , ,YOR June 12 , 1939 • • At a regular meeting of the Dayor and Town Council of the Town ,of Leesburg , in Virginia , held in the Council Chamber on Monday June 12 , 1939 at 8 :00 P. M. there were present ; Lucas D. Phillips ; Mayor; Louis T. Titus , Recorder ; and R. M. Flippo , J . T. Hourihane , J . L. Oliver and J . H. Turley Councilmen . Mr. C. F. Harrison appeared in the interest of having an adjustment made in his water bill due to water being used by the Contractor in .the installation of the sewerage system, from a hydrant on the said Harrison' s property. No action was taken on this matter . • On motion of Councilman Turley , seconded by Cou11cilmQn Flippo and unanimously carried the following Eesolutibn was adopted ; Man aet0G, ijf in WHEREAS , Mrs . - ,- Sister of Louis C. Rollins , Councilman , died on the 10th day of June and is to be buried on the 13th day of June , 1939 : • ROW, THEREFORE , BE IT U11ANTMOUSLY RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia , that we hereby express our deepest sympathies to Councilman Rollins in his bereavement in the death of his said Sister; and that outhof respect to him this meeting be adjourned and continued to Wednesday , June 14 , 1939 , at 8 o ' clock F; M. at which time there ' will be a special meeting of the Council at the said timeto transact such business as may properly brought before it . The minutes of meetings held on May 22 and May 23 , 1939 , were read and upon motion duly made , sedonded and Carried., were • • approved as read . Upon Motion of Councilman Turley , seconded by Councilman -Hourihane and unanimously :carried the Following Resolution was adopted ; WHEREAS , Charles F. Harrison' s water bill from the Town for the quarter ending May 31 , 19:39 , amounted to $18.90; and • WHEREAS , the Council has been informed that •the employees of W. C. Spratt, who has contracted with the Town to Construct for It a sewerage system , used a considerable quantity of water while foing construction work near said Harrison ' s property and the estimated quantity of water used by the employees of said Spratt and which water want through the meter on the premises of said Harrison reduces his water bill from $18.90 to $11.00 :
