HomeMy Public PortalAbout1940_02_12 257 • WHEREAS , the Town owes the Peoples National Bank of Leesburg , Leesburg , Virginia , $12 ,500.00 principal and $32.99 interest on a debt evidenced by a note dated December 27 , 1939 , payable ,on or befcre 90 days after date ; and VIEEREASrr the Town has received $15,000.00 from F.W.AY • representing the final payment on a grant to the town in the sum of .-$67 ;500.00 which as this day been deposited in the Construction Fund ; and WHEREAS ; the Town owes the Rust Engineering Company , Inc. , • $292. 76 for •preliminary costs incurred by It and Margaret F. Garrett $5.00 for notarizing ten easement agreements ; and WHEREAS , after paying all of the claims approved by PWA on the sewer project there will be left a balance of $230.12 in the Construction Fund : • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia , that Roscoe B. Rhoads , Auditor- Treasurer , be and he is hereby authorized and directed to draw a check for' $12 ,532 .99 , payable to the Peoples National Bank of Leesburg; Leesburg , Virginia , for payment of the aforesaid note and interest thereon; and a check for $292. 76 payable to the Rust Engineering Company , Inc. , for the aforesaid pre- liminary costs ; and a check to Margaret F. Garrett for $5.00 for notarizing the aforesaid" agreements ; and a check for $230.12 for• deposit in the General Fund of the Town. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the said Council of the said Town of Leesburg , that Louis T. Rhoads , Auditor-Treasurer, has this day - presented to the Council a budget showing actual receipts and disbursements for the year 1939 and estimated receipts and dis- - bursements fot the year beginning July 1 , 1940 , and ending June 30 , 1941 : • NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED , by the Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia , that Roscoe B. Rhoads , Auditor7 . Treasurer be and he is hereby instructed , authorized and directed to have the aforesaid budget published by one insertion in a newspaper published in said town. -` BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the said Council , that there will be a Special Meeting of the said Council in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall Building , in the Town of Leesburg , Virginia , at 7 :30 F. M. on the 5th day of March, 1940 , for the purpose of giving any citizen of the Town the right to acpear before the Council and state his views on the aforesaid proposed budget. Mr. L. T. Fry appeared in the interest of having the Council take some action in regard to having police • on duty at fires in the Town of Leesburg , to keep . the public out of the way Of the firemen while working. The Recorder read the following bill to the Council ; Town of Leesburg , Dr. To John T . Grimes , ( On his Tebbs Lot) Damage to Hedge Fence , Oct. 18 , 1939 , X515. Needed to replace in the condition when found&before • Sewer was put in , per promise , on above Grimes ' Lot , 12. On Grimes"Norris"Lot, to Restore grass and make in the Condition before putting in Sewer, per Agreem' t , . - 25.C . . Total due Grimes , Fifty Two Dollars. $52. Bill of ( Signed - John T. Grimes) • On motion of Councilman , Oliver , seconded by Councilman Turley and unanimously carried, the following Resolution was adopted ; • 2..59 • • . WHEREAS , John T. Grimes has presented- to the Town a claim . in the -sum of Fifty-Two Dollars (; 52 .00) for alleged damages which includes $15.00 for damage to hedge fence ,. $12:00 for damage to Grimes Lot between Loudoun and Fayette Streets and $25.00 to the Norris Lot west of Church Street : and WHEREAS, the Council being of the opinion that neither the said claim nor any -part thereof is due- the said John T. Grimes : NOW ,THEREFORE, BE IT- RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia , that the Town does hereby reject and ' refuse to pay .same or any part thereof. I • ' MAYO • March 5, 1940 SPECIAL At a special meeting of the Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia held in the Council Chamber on Tuesday , March 5 , 1940 , pursuant to a resolution passed on the 12th day of February 1940 , there were present ; Lucgs D: i?hfllips , Mayor ; IILouis T. Titus , Recorder and R. M. Flippo, L. C. Rollins and J . D. Taylor. ' Ccuncilmen . ( The meeting was held at 7 :30 P. Id. ) The purpose of the meeting as set forth in the aforesaid resolution of February 12, 1940 was to give- any citizen or taxpayer the privelege of being heard in regard to the proposed budget for the year beginning July 1 , 1940 and ending June 30 , 1941 . There being ' nocone present to discusa the proposed budget , the Council proceeded with an informal discussion of current matters and upon motion duly made seconded and carried , the Council ad.ourned at 8 :30 F.
