HomeMy Public PortalAbout1940_08_12 268 On motion of Councilman Oliver seconded by Councilman Turley2and unanimously carried the following Resolution was •adopted ; BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia , that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby Authorized , instructed and directed tc pay -the current bill of the Sheriff of Loudoun County for the -month of June , pro- vided that said bill does no exceed $50.00. -There being no further business , on motion duly made , seconded and carried , the Council adjourned at 8 :33 P. 1.7. ="- L • I • APPROVED : 44.1-)514:t RECORDER •MAYOF • August 12 , 1940 At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Cpuncil of the town of Leesburg in Virginia held in the Council Chamber on Monday August 12 , 1940 at 8 :P. M. , there were present ; Lucas D. Phillips, Mayor ; Louis T. Titus, Recorder and E. M. Flippo , J . T. Hourihane, J. L. Oliver , L. C. Rollins , J. D. Taylor and J. H. Turley , Councilmen ; The minutes of the last regular meeting held on July 8 , , 1940 were read and upon motion duly made seconded and carried, were approved as read . • . • The Auditor-Treasurer reported that the bill of S: P. • Alexander , Sheriff of Loudoun County for the care and confinement of II prisoner-s for the tonth of June as authorized to- be paid if same should be under $50.00 , was $48.00 and has been paid. • On motion of Councilman Oliver , seconded by Councilman Turley and unanimously carried , the following Resolution was adopted : I BE IT RESOLVED , by the Council of the Town of Leesburg , in • Virginia , that the Mayor of said town shall continue to have all jurisdiction vested in such Mayor at the time Section 4987-f of the Code of Virginia -was amended and re-enected into law by the 1940 General Assembly and all such power as the Council of the said town is authorized to vest in said Mayor by virtue of the said section of 'the Code of Virginia , as amended; and that the jurisdiction of the said Mayor shall pertain to the issuance of warrants and the summoning of witnesses and the trial -of cases involving violation of town Ordinances , and that the said Mayor shall collect •all fees , fines and costs and pay same -into the treasury of the town of Leesburg , in Virginia, as now provided by law, or by ordinance of the said town . The Auditor-Treasurer -read his monthly report of the finances for the month of July 1940 . - II On motion of Councilman Turley , seconded by Councilman Oliver and unanimously carried the following Eepooution was adopted : BE IT RESOLVED BY, the Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized; instructed and directed topay the following bills; 269 Virginia Public Service Company Mayor ' s office and fire house - - - 5 5. 80 ' General Pumping 80.67 Harrison Pumping 11.52 Street Lighting 119 .62 . . Hirst 2.44 Total - - - - 5 927 .30 • • On motion of Councilman Turley, seconded by Councilman Oliver and unanimously carried , the following Resolution was adopted : ' • BE IT RESOLVED , by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia that Messers Robert Atwell and H. B. Gill of the town Police Force and R. L. Hough, Pumping Station and Disposal Plant _ attendant be and they are hereby granted a vacation of two ( 2) weeks with pay . BE IT FURTHE`r. EESO@VED , by the said Council that the said Atwell , Gill and Hough may not accept their vacation and shall receive regular pay in lieu thereof. . • On motion of Councilman Turley , seconded by Councilman, Oliver and unanimously carried the following Resolution was adopted : • BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg , in Virginia that the Light Committee be and it is hereby authorized , instructed and direcetd to either move the present light near Chevy Chase Courts on Wirt Street or install a new light to improve the lighting at this location.
