November 29 , 1940 SPECIAL •

At a Special meeting of the Mayor and Town Council of the
Town of Leesburg , in Virginia held in the Mayors Office on Friday,
November 29th 1940 at 7 :30 F. II. there were present ; Lucas D:. Fhillips ; •
Mayor ; Louis T. Titus , Recorder and J . T. Hourihane , J . L.Oliver ,
L. C. Rollins , J. D. Taylor and J. H.- Turley , Councilman.
The Mayor Stated that the purpose of the meeting was to
discuss the present Ordinance taxing trucks and to take up any other
business that might -be properly brought before the meeting. •
The folloi+ting truck operators were present in the interest
of having the present levy on trucks dispensed with; L. C. Carr, H. H.
Fultz , Wm. F. Titus ,. R. W. Edmondson , . J . L. Carr , T. S . Titus , R. W.
Turner .
After some discussion of the question by all present it
was the concensus of opinion that the -present levy on trucks was
unfair to the trucking business and upon- motion of Councilman Turley ,
seconded by Councilman Hourihane- and unanimously carried an Ordinance
rescinding Sec. 6 of the Tax Ordinance found on page 46 of the Current
Ordinance Book, was .passed . A copy of this Ordinance may be found in
the Current Ordinance Book. - •
On motion .of Councilman Oliver, seconded by Councilman
Hourihane and unanimously carried the following Resolution was adopted ;

BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburr , in
Virginia that the Auditor-Treasurer be - and he is hereby author--
ized to refund• •the current truck - tax already paid by Mrs. R. D.
Shroy , H. W. Turner and W. C . Harris.

Upon motion of Councilman Oliver , -seconded by Councilman
Hourihane and unanimously carried the following Resolution was adopted ;
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Councilmof the Town df Leesburg , in
Virginia , that .th_e Auditor-Treasurer , be and he is hereby author-
ized , and directed to pay the firemen •of the Leesburg Fire Company
as follows :
A. M. Adnain $20 .00; J . E. Adrain $20.00 , A. B. Atwell $20 .00 ;
L. F. Atwell $20.00 ; J. B. Anderson $20.00 ; M. E . Ball:.20 :00 • •
L. T. Cooksey $20.00 J. C. di7,erega $20 . 00 ; R . W. Edmondson $20200 ;
C. W. Fiske $20.00 ; H. Flippo $20.00 ; L. T. Frye $20.00; J . -C.
Fleming $20.00 ; C. Keys $20 .00 ; J. E. Lawrence $20.00 ; J. H. Leigh

from the said amount due each fireman the amount he owes the town.

Upon motion of Councilman Rollins , seconded by Councilman
Hourihahe and unanimously carried the following Resolution was adopted ;

Virginia that the following Committee be and it is hereby . IIauthorized to attend to having the Page fence at the disposal
plant , recently der:aged , repaired ; J. L. Oliver , J. H , Turley
and a. B. Rhoads .
Upon motion of Councilman Oliverq: seconded by Councilman
Hourhiane and unanimously carried the following Resolution was .adopted ;
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, to
Virginia that Mr. Roger F. 'Powell is hereby employed as- EXTRA— " -.
night watchman for the Month of Decembef 1940 et $3.00 per night.
There being no further business , on motion duly made ,
seconded and carried the Council adjourned at 8 : 56 F. M.
