HomeMy Public PortalAbout1944_08_14 6 5 ,, , / - August 14, 1944 REGULAR At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia , held in the council chamber on' Mon- day, August 14, 1944 at 8:00 P.M. , there were present: E.N.Bradfied Mayor, George E. Ward, Recorder, C .W.Fiske, J.L.Mclntosh,J.L.Oliver, L.C.Rollins, and J.H.Turley, Councilmen. The minutes of the last regular meeting were read and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, were approved as read. The Auditor-Treasurer read his Monthly report for the month of July, 1944, and presented the current bills, and upon motion of.. C.W.Fiske, seconded by J.L.Mclntosh and unanimously carried, the following Resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia , that the Auditor-Treasurer be, and he is hereby authorised and directed to pay the following bills: Virginia Electric & Power Company; Mayor ' s Office and Fire House $ 5.70 • Fire Siren 4.00 General Pumping 139.68 Harrison Pumping - 13.35- Street Lighting -131.04. Hume was read by the Mayor, ad- vising the Council that she did not wan.liAoi. renew her contract with the Town of Leesburg for dumping A e on her property, which will expire on Sept. 1, 1944; however she would grant an ex- • tension of 30 days if necessary. Councilman C .W.Fiske advised the. Council that twit discarded quarry pits belonging to the Leesburg Lime & Fuel Corp. could be purchased for apjiroximately $1000. The matter was laid on the table until the next meeting of Council,until investigation could be made into the feasibility of dumping gmth=ge into said pits. TWH An agreement between the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, and . George M. Martin, C.R.Lytle and his wife, Mabel G. Lytle and Claude Honicon for an easement through their property for a water line, was presented to the Council and upon motion of Councilman J.H. 111Turley, seconded by Councilman J.L.Oliver/the following resolution was adopted; and unanimously carried, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in • Virginia, that the Mayor be and is hereby authorized to sign the agreement between' the Town of Leesburg in Virginia and George M. -Mar- tin, C .R.lytle and his wife, Mabel G. Lytle and Claude Honicon and affix the seal of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia and have same recorded. On motion offf Councilman C.W.Fiske , seconded by Councilman J. L. McIntosh /they resolution was adopted:BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized - • 369 instructed and directed. to purchase one 3-578" Pomona Pump and Motor and have same installed in Well No. 1, at a cost not to exceed $1,000.00. On motion of Councilman J.L.Oliver and seconded by Council- m:in J.L.Mclntosh, andwunanimously carried, it was ordered that at least two bids be secured for the purchase of said pump. The Mayor reported to the Council that he would continue further consideration of a contract between the .Town of Leesburg tSzaiwestuang in Virginia and the Virginia Electric & Power Company and that a meeting to consider same would be held at a later date . On motion of Councilman J.L.Oliver and seconded by Council- man J.H.Turley, /the following resolution was adopted: and unanimously carriZd • BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia , that theuAuditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay to each Official and each Councilman attendind the Convention of the League of Virginia Municipalities, the sum of $25.00. Councilman C .W.Fiske of the `rater & Power Committee advised the Council that the Committee wished to withdraw their reccommen- dation for the sale of a 15-H.P. Motor which was submitted at a recent meeting. There being .no further business, on motion duly made, sec- onded and carried, the Council adjourned at 8:58 P.M. Turley, Councilmen: Mayor Bradfield appointed Councilman McIntosh Recorder Pro- tem.
