Coudty of Loudoun --- 63.39 Lloyd Slack 1.00 $732.77 The Auditor-Treasurer reported that the annual premium of the Mutual Assurance Society of Virginia, J . S. Whitmore , agent, normally amounting to $15.00, has been 100 percent abated for the year 1945, in commeroration of the 150th anniverdary of the company. Mayor Bradfield urged the councilmen to again study the report of the Post-War Planning Commission, in order that some definite steps may be taken in near future. • Councilman James L. McIntosh of the Fire Committee reported that in view of the fact that Council did not have authority to turn over to the • Fire Company, complete management of said company, they reccommended that certain sums of money be paid the Fire Company periodically for the main • - tenance of said company. The Council was then polled on the recommehdation of Councilman McIntosh and at the suggestion of Councilman J.H.Turley, it was agreed that the Fire Company submit in writing its proposal which wpuld be considered at the next meeting of the Council. • There being no further business , on motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Council adjourned at 8:30 P.M. 1key . �. Recorder Mayor • v - March 12, 1945 Regular At a regular meeting of tpe Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the Council chamber on Mon- day, March 12, 1945 at 7: 30 P.M. , there were present: E.N.Bradfiel¢ Mayor, George E. Ward, Recorder, C .W.Fiske , John T. Hourihane , James L. McIntosh, Joseph L. Oliver and J.H.Turley, Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Joseph L. Oliver , seconded by Councilman J.H.Turley, they were unanimously approved as read. The- Auditor-Treasurer read his monthly statement for the month of February, 1945 and presented the current bills and upon motion of Councilman John T. Hourihane, seconded by Councilman C.W.Fiske and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay the following bills: Virginia Electric & Power Company: Mayor's Office and Fire House $ 6.80 Fire Siren - 4.00 General Pumping 101.04 Harrison Pumping 13.80 Sewerage & Disposal Plant 9.36 Street Lighting - 1361.044 White Way Lighting --1.3954 ST Stone House Station - 60.20 Loudoun Times-Mirror - 6.00 J .T.Hirst & Co. Inc . , - - 15.26 Gill' s Radio iF,Electric Ser. - - - -- 4.54 $2684.24 A bid of KemptElectric Company, Purcellville, Va. , in- the amount of $237.33 for installing underground electric service from VEPCO pole to the pumping station and replacing the main switch with a heavier one, etc . was read to the Council and upon motion of Councilman James L. Mc- Intosh, seconded by Councilman J.H.Turley and unanimously carried, same was accepted. The proposal of the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Co. , in writing as requested by the Council at its February meeting, was read to the Council as follows: "To the Mayor and members of the Town Council ofthe Town of Lees- burg, Virginia: "Pursuant to your request, the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company hereby submits the following plan for consideration: 1. That the Town of Leesburg convey to said Volunteer Fire Company, title to the fire equipment now in use, and that any future purchase of equipment will be made by said Company only after conference with a Com- mittee selected by the Town- Council and will be paid for by the said Com- pany. 2. That the Town of Leesburg furnish the siad Fire Company with a suitable building in which to house said equipment and to furnish heat and light for the same ; the said Company to keep such building clean and to keep all fire egmppment clean in good running condition at all times. 3 . The said Fire Company further agrees to maintain a roster of at least twenty-five (25) members at all times and further agrees that in the event of any replacement of equipment, the new equipment must be on hand and in place before the old equipment is disposed of. 4. That the Town of Leesburg pay to the said Fire Company the sum of 0Me Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) annually and that the said Fire Company further receive the check, payable annually by the County of Loudoun both of which payments to be used by said Fire Company for its maintenance and support. Taat in condideration whereof, the said Fire Company will-continue to render service to the best of its ability to the public., as in the past. Fiske, followed, by a thorough discussion of same , the proposal was unanimously denied.
