Smoot as a member of the Building Committee, replacing ex-Councilman J.T.Hourihane. Sthoot and unanimously carried, the Auditor-Treasurer was order to have a new chimney built at the Pump Station. • Alegular Novembe0 12, 1945 .At a regular meeting of. the Mayor and Toren Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the .Council Chamber. on Mon- day, November 12, 1945 at 7: 30 o 'clock P.M. there were present : E.N.Bradfield, Mayor, George E. Ward, Recorder, C.W.Fisge, James L. McIntosh, Joseph L. Oliver, Thelma J. Smoot, J.H.Turley and . L. C . Rollins, Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of J.H.Turley, seconded by C.W.Fiske and unanimously carried, they werea approved as read. The Auditor-Treasurer read his monthly statement for the month of October, 1945 and presented the current bills, and upon motion , of C.W.Fiske, seconded by Joseeh L. Oliver and unanimously carried the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be, and he is hereby author- ized and directed to pay the following bills : - Va. Oliver , seconded by C.W.Fiske and unani- mously carried, the following resolution was qdopted: BE IT RE• SOLVED, by the Council of the, Town of Leesburg, in Virginia that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay the members of the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Department at the rate of $20.00 per annum for the year ending December 31, 1945; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Auditor-Treasurer is hereby autho- rized and. directed to deduct any taxes, water rents or other levies . from the amount due each Fireman should he owe any such taxes, water rents or other levies. . II • On moti• on of C .W.Fiske , seconded by J .H.Turley and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted: BE IT R▪ ESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virgins • that the salary of Roscoe B. Rhoads be -increased from $2300.00 per year to $2400.00 per year; that the salary of Roger F. Powell be in- creased from $2000.00 per -year to $2100.00 per year; that the salary of Samuel C. Bell be increased -from $1560.00 per year to $1660.00 per year and that the salary of Raymond L. Hough be increased from $1700.00 per year to $1800.00 per year. , all said salaries shall be retroactive to November 1, 1945 " The mat• ter of traffice congestion and parking on King street from Loudoun to Cornwall streets was brought to the attention of Council and thoroughly discussed. The Mayor suggested that an informal • public meeting be held at whcih time- the merchants and other inter- ested citizens be present and express their views. On motion of C.W.Fiske., seconded by Thelma J. Smoot and unanimously carried, the . Auditor-Treasurer was authorized and directed to insert in the news- , papers of. the town a notice of this. meeting to be held at the Mayor's Officeon Monday night, November 19, 1945 at 8:00 o' clock, Mayor Bradfield, Auditor-Treasurer Roscoe B. Rhoads and Councilmen James L. McIntosh and Thelma J. Smoot reported on the annual convent- iog of the League of Virginia Municipalities held in Richmond in I October and expressed. the view that the convention was a success . in every respect.
