HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-28-1960PLANNING COtimissION MEETING March 28, 1960 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Fortin at 8 :15 P.M. The following members were in attendance, Kenneth Fortin, Ella Christensen, Herb Gaspar, Alex Schumacher and Anne Theis, Secretary. The secretary read the minutes of the Planning Commission meeting of March 211 1960. The minutes were accepted as read. A motion was made by Ella Christensen to recommend that the Village of Medina donate $100.00 to the Water Patrol .Association. The motion was seconded by Herb Gaspar. A discussion was held at which time herb Gaspar called the attention of the members to the fact that the Hennepin County Park was greatly responsible for the activity on Lake Independance which in tarn brought on the need for a Water Patrol on the Lake. The Motion was voted on and carried. Mr. Bruce Kelly submitted maps of Medina Morningside Subdivision to the Planning Commission. He explained that the developers have given some jL thought to the installation of a Community Water System for the subdivision. The necessary equipment such as well, storage facility etc. could be located on part of the area that has been set aside for a park or play area. The lots would range in size from 151C0C to 18,000, The average lot would be 18,000. There was a discussion on drainage probleas and the layout of the roads. It ras stated that there would be 113 lots in the plat. The surfaceing of the >treets was also discussed. The secretary read a letter to the members from Village Engineer Archie Carter pertaining to the wort, he had done with Kr. Kelly on the planning of this subdivision. 1r. Carter suggested that the question of road surfaceing could be takel care of at a later date. It was explained to the members tho.t homes in this area would range in price from 16 or 18 thousand to about 25 thousand. The Planning Commission decided th..t action on the preliminary plat would be done at the regular meeting on April 18, 1960. Mr. Carter's letter on street su.rf.aceing was read by the secretary. A motion by Ella %hristensen that the Planning Commission request the Village .__Council to adept at their April Meeting a suitable set of specifications for 1 road construction in the Village of Medina. notion seconded by Alex Schumacher. Motion carried. Walter Kohnen brought to the attention of the members the wish of Loren Baynard to buy 5 acres from him and also a 30 foot strip for a private roadway. This private road would be about 6/10 mile and lie along the half section line. There was a general discussion on this natter and it was the opinion of the Planning Commission that an attempt be made by Walter Kohnen to secure an easement on this 30 foot strip from the man so that it could be used at some future time as part of a 60 foot road if the area was subdivided. A suggestion was made by Kenneth Fortin that The Village Coanc-il attempt to secure a member for the Planning Commission to fill the vacancy, who would let as a member of the Planning Commission and also act as assistant Building Inspector. 1 There being no further business a motion was :Wade by Ella Christensen and seconded by Herb Gaspar to adjourn the meeting.
