HomeMy Public PortalAbout1946_07_08 409 The Auditor-Treasurer presented a list of uncollectable licenses and upon motion of C.W.Fiske, seconded by James L. McIntosh and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Vir- ginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and. instructed to charge off the following license: W. F. Painter, Shoe Repair Shop $10.00 On motion of James L. McIntosh, seconded by C .W.Fiske and unani- mously mously carried, the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED,. by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Vir- ginia, that the State Auditing Department be, and it is hereby re- quested to audit the records of the Auditor-Treasurer of the Town concerning the Town's finances for one year, from July 1, 1945 through June 29, 1946, and that the said 'Townwill pay. the. .Commonr wealth of Virginia for making said audit; and George E. Ward, Re- corder, is authorized and requested to execute a certified copy of this Resolution to be mailed to the Auditing Department of the Commonwealth, of Virginia. On motion of Joseph L. Oliver , seconded by C .W.Fiske and unani- mously carried, the Auditor-Treasurer was authorized to purchase the necessary material for installing water line on East North street, between Church street and Corporate limits and Harrison street be- tween Market .and North street. • un motion of Thelma J. Smoot, seconded by C.W.Fiske and unani- mously carried the Auditor-Treasurer was authorized to have necess- ary repairs made to the Town Water Tank. • A letter .from D.C.Sands, a member of the County Board of Super- visprs, relative to the Town participating in the erection of a new jail, was read to Council. No action taken. On motion of J.H.Turley, seconded by Thelma J. Smoot and unani- mously carried, the Light Committee was authorized to have street lights placed on the following poles: 25H, -27H, 17B, 25F, 24D, 34H. The matter of failure to place Gaabage and 'rash in containers in the rear of Simmon's Grocery store and others was brought to the attention of .Council by Councilman Smoot and after some discussion the Auditor-treasurer was instructed .to have the health Officer. investigate same. Approved: Recorder Mayor Regular July 8, 1946 At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council of the Town -•of -Leesburg in Virginia., held in the Council Chamber on Monday, July 8, 1946 at 8:00 o ' clock P.M. , there were present: E.N.Bradfield, Mayor, George E. Ward, Recorder, James L. McIntosh, Joseph L. Oliver, L. C. Rollins and Thelma J. Smoot, Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of James L. McIntosh, seconded by Joseph L. Oliver and unanimously car- ried they were approved as read. The Auditor-Treasurer read his monthly report forthe month of June, 1946, his Quarterly report for the quarter ending June 29, 1946 and his Annual statement for the fiscal year ending June 29, 1946 and upon motion of Thelma J. Smoot, seconded by Joseph L. Oliver and unani- mously carried the following resolution was adopted: WHEREAS, the Auditor-Treasurer has this day presented to the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, a quarterly statement of 410 all receipts and an analysis of all disbursements for the months of April, May and June, 1946; • NOW) THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the said quarterly report of the Auditor- Treasurer be and it is hereby approved and accepted by said Council; -- BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Council that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to have a copy of the said quarterly report published once in a. newspaper, published in said town and also post a copy of the said report in front of the Court House in the sqid town. The Auditor-Treasurer presented the current bills and tpon motion of Joseph L. Oliver, seconded by James L. McIntosh and unanimous- ly carried, the following resolution was adopted: - BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay the following bills: • Va.Electric & Power Co. Co. 8b 3.7 On motion of Joseph L. Oliver-, seconded by James L. McIntosh and unanimously carried, the Auditor-Treasurer was authorized and directed to purchase 500 feet of 4-inch cast iron water pipe, necessary gate valves and slip-yes to extend the line to the Corporate, limits on East Loudoun Street. On motion of James L. McIntosh, seconded by Thelma J. Smoot and unanimously carried, the Water Committee was instructed to investigate condition of the pump in Harrison Spring and if deemed advisable,to authorize and instruct the Auditor-Treasurer to purchase a new pump to replace the one now in use.
