HomeMy Public PortalAbout1946_08_12 411 Regular August 12, 1946 'At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia , held in the Council Chamber on Mon- day, August 12, 1946 at 8:00 P.M. , there were present: E.N.Bradfield, Mayor, George E. Ward, Recorder, C.W.Fiske, James L. McIntosh, Joseph L. Oliver , L.C .Rollins, Thelma J. Smoot and J.H.Turley, Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read and upon motion of C.W.Fiske, seconded by Joseph L. Oliver .and unanimously carried they were approved as read. The Auditor-Treasurer read his monthly report for the month of July, _1946 and presented the current bills and upon motion of C .W. Fiske, seconded by James b. McIntosh and unanimously carried, the fol- lowing resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in _ virginia, that the Auditor-`Treasurer be , and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay the following bills : Va, Electric & Power Co. Railroad - 93.43 Old Dominion Appliance Co. - 0 $194 .09 Sterling Harrison appeared before Council, in the interest of Mrs. Anna S.- Chancellor , Proprietress of Chancellor' s Garage and asked permission to sink two underground gasoline tanks under the side walk on North Church street , near Market street. The matter was con- tinued for further consideration. B. Powell Harrison, Jr. addressed the Council on Yost-war ex- pansion, particularly annexation of surrounding territory. On motion of ThelmaLJ,ceSmoot;hsecondedebybtFames L. McIntosh and unanimously carried, the Auditor-Treasurer was authorized and directed to have laid a concrete Block curb on the South side of Royal street from King street to Church street and approximately 150 feet on the west side of South King street , South of the W. & 0.D. Railroad On motion of C .W.Fiske, seconded by Thelma J. Smoot and unani- • 412 mously carried, the church of the Nazarene was granted continued use of the Piano and additional chairs for the Sunday School. • - The matter of drain water from house roofs entering the sanitary sewerage system was brought ito the attention of Council, and after some discussion, the Auditor-Treasurer was instructed to prepare and send to each property owner a notice requested that all down spouts be removed,! On motion of C .W.Fiske, seconded by J.H.Turley, and unani- ' mously carried, the following resolution was adopted: ' BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in • Virginia, that Roscoe B. Rhoads, Auditor-Treasurer, Roger F.. Powell, Police Sergeant, Samuel C . Bell, Night Policman, and Raymond L: Hough, be given the choice of taking a vacation or pay at the regular rate, in lieu thereof. Un motion of C .W.Fiske, seconded by J.H.Turley, and unani- mously carried, the following resolution was adopted: - BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town •of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the salary of George T. Harvey, Police Officer, be increased from $125.00 per month to $135.00 per month, said increase to be retroactive to August 1, 1946.
