Semones and.C .E.Newton were elected to the respective offices for which they were candidates; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the following persons be and they are here- by declared to have been duly elected for the term beginning September 1, 1947, and ending August 31, 1949: M. R. Lowenback, Mayor, ;George E. Ward, fcecorder, James L. McIntosh, Louis T. Titus, C. William•Fiske, Thelma J. Smoot, Emerson H. James and Joseph L. Oliver, Councilman. A report from the Special Town Hall Committee was made by councilman Oliver. Mr. Oliver stated that the Committee in consul- tation with Mr. Nash, architect from Washington and Bluemont, had been .advised that the cost of the proposed improvements would coat approximately $18,000. The Committee felt that further consideration at this time inadvisable. Mayor Bradfield discharged the Committee with thanks. • There being no further business, on motion duly made, • seconded and unanimously carried, the Council adjourned. /, • - � i - Approved: recorder 'Regular .August 112 ' 1947 At a regular meeting of the mayor and Town Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber on Mondsq, August 11, 1947 at 8:00 o'clock, P.M. , there were .present: E. N. Brad- field, Mayor, George E. Ward, Recorder, C. W. Fiske, James L. McIntosh, J. L. Oliver, L. C. Rollins and J. H. Turley, Councilmen. The minutes of the last meeting were read•and upon motion of J.L.Oliver, seconded by J.L.Mclntosh and unanimously carried, they were approved as read. The Auditor-'treasurer read his monthly statement for the month of July, 1947,. and presented the current bills, and upon motion of J.L.Oliger, seconded by C .W.Fiske and unanimously carried, the fol- lowing resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg,. in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay the following bills: . . • Va. Oliver and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that Roscoe B. Rhoads, Auditor-Treasurer, and Raymond L. Hough, Pumping House Operator, be given thebchoice of taking a vacation,or pay at the regular rate, in lieu thereof. Town Seargent Thompson presented a report -of the Police Department which was accepted by Council. mayor Bradfield advised Council that this was his last IIregular meeting with them as Mayor before retiring the first of September and he thnaked them for the fine cooperation they had given him during his term of office. Special. - September 1, 1947 At a special meeting of the mayor and Town Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber On Mon- day, oeptember 1, 1947 at 8:00 o 'clock P. M. , there were present: Maurice R. Lowenbach, or. Mayor, C.W.il ske, J.L.Mclntosh, J.L.Oliver, Emerson H. Janes, Thelma J . Smoot and Louis T. Titus, Councilmen. In the absence of recorder-Elect veerge E. Ward, the mayor announced that the meeting was open for, nominations of one of the II council to serve as recprder-protem. Upon motion of J.L.Mclntosh, .seconded by 'Thelma 0 . Smoot, :Louis .T. Titus was nominated and unani- mously elected as -"ecorder-protem to act for this meeting. , The Mayor administered the Oath of Office to the following: C .W.Fiske, Emersonn H. James, J.L.Mclntosh, J.L.Oliver, Thelma J. Smoot.eu_d Louis T. Titus presented his oath previously administered. The mayor then declared all Councilmen duly qualified. Upon motion of C .W.Fiske, seconded by Emerson H. James and unanimoulsy carried the following resolution wqs adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the• Torn of Leesburg, in Virginia, that Stilson H. Hall be and he is hereby elected and appointed as Town Attorney for a period of two years beginning September 1, 1947 atan annual salary- of $100.00 payable semi-annually. . : . . upon motion of C.W.Fiske, seconded by J.L.Oliver and unani- mously carried the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that Roscoe B. Rhoads, •be and he is hereby elected and appoint ed to the office of -Auditor-Treasurer for a period of two years, be- ginning September 1,- 1947 at an annual salary of $2,800.00, payable II monthly. . Upon •motion of J.L.Mclntosh, seconded by J.L.Oliver and unanimously carried;- the following resolution wqs adopted; • BLIT RESOLVED, by the Council of the- Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that •James A. Thompson be and he is hereby elected and appointed as acting -sergeant- of Police at the weekly salary of $40.00 plus $10.00 per week- traveling expenses until such time as he becomes a legal resident of the town. • Upon •motion of- C :W.Fiske, seeonded by Emerson H. James, and unanimoulsy carried the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED,- by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that •F.L.Huber and Jack C . Von Berg be and they are hereby elected and appointed as Police Officers at the annual salary of $1,920.00. . • -
