Alekander was read to Council, asking . hhat hhe amount of his contract for hauling slops be raised from $50.00 per month to $100.00 per month. After discussion of same and upon motion of J.L.Oliver, seconded by J.L.Mclntosh and unanimously carried the matter was referred to the 'Trash Committee with power to work out a satisfactory agreement with Mr. Alexander. On motion of C .W.Fiske, seconded by Thelma J. - Smoot and unani- mously carried, the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Vir- ginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay to each Official and each Councilman attending the Convention of 'the League of Virginia Municipalitits, the sum of $25.00. On motion of J. L. Mntoek$econded by Louis T. Titus nl unanimously carried, the Street C mmittee was authorized to contact a competent engineer to prepare plans1hnd establish proper grade levels for curbs and sidewalks' in the twos. Mayor Lowenbach advised Council of a contemplated courtesy drive IIagainst traffic violations. On motion of C.W.Fiske, seconded by Louis T. Titus and unani- mously carried, a request to use the Tann Hall building as a meeting place for Boy :Scouts, was referred to the Building Committee with in- structions to report back to Council. . On motion oP Thelma J . Smoot, seconded by Louis T. Titus and unanimously carried, the mayor was authorized, instructed and directed to write a letter to the County supervisors requesting them to have containers placed in the -Court House yard for the collection of trash. Mayor Regular October 13, 1947 At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber on Monday, Oct- ,' ober 13, 1947 at 7:30 o 'clock P.M. , there were present: Maurice R. Lowenbach, or. Mayor, C .W.Fiske, Emerson H. James, James ,L. McIntosh, J. L. Oliver, Thelma J . Smoot and Louis T. Titus,Tcounculmet. The Mayor appointed Louis T. Titus, Recorder Pro-tem. • • tThe•minutes of the last meeting .were read -and upon motion duly made, seconded-and unanimoulsy carried, they were :approved as read. • 'David M. McDonald, :tire Chief of the Leeshurg Volunteer Fire Companyl appeared before Council and presented to the. town a .check in the amount of $195.00 for out-of-town fires from July 1, 1946 to April 7, 1947. he also asked Council for a new over.-head door at the ire house. The matter was referred to theiPile Committee. The Auditor-Treasurer read his monthly report for the month of 40• September, 1947, his Quarterly report far the quarter ending Septem- ber 30, 1947, and upon motion of L. T:'Titps; -seconded;;by C . W. Fiske and unanimou&ty:carried, the following resolution was adopted: WHEREAS; the Auditor-Treasurer has this day presented to the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, a quarterly statement of all receipts' and an analysis of all disbursements for the months of July, August and September, 1947; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the said quarterly report of the Auditor- Treasurer be and it is hereby approved and accepted by'said Council; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Council that the Auditor-Treas- urer be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to have a copy of the said quarterly report published once in a newspaper, published in .said town and also post a copy of the said report in front of the Court House in the said twon. The Auditor-Treasurer presented the current bills and, upon motion of James L. Police Deaprtment. as presented by Town Sergeant J. A. Thompson. On motion of C . W. Fiske, seconded by Thelma J. Smoot, and unanimously carried, the following Ordinance was enacted: BE IT ORDAINED, by the Council of the Tcwin of Leesburg, in Virginia, that it shall be unlawful and constitute a misdemeanor for. person to leave a motor vehicle parked on any street of the Town with the motor running. Any person convicted of such an offense shall be fined not less than $1.00 nor more than $10.00. (A copy of. this Ordi- nance may be found in the Current Ordinance Hook) 441• On motion of C . W. Fiske, seconded by Emerson H'. James and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the `mown of Leesburg, in Vir- ginia, that Resolutions o$ Respect on the death of Charles F. Harri- son, former Mayor of Leesburg, be drawn up and submitted: at the next meeting of: Council. . On motion of Thelma J. Smoot, seconded by James L. McIntosh and unanimously. carried, the following resolution was adopted: • BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Town agrees to pay for electric current used in .the Christmas lighting system to be set up by the Lions Club. • On motion of J. L. Oliver, seconded by James L. McIntosh and unanimously carried, Councilman C .W.Fiske , together with Town Serg- eant J. A. Thompson, were instructed and directed to have an Ordi- nance prepared concerning the registration of Bicycles in- the town .
