HomeMy Public PortalAbout1951_07_19 40 • REGULAR JULY 19, 1951. - At a regular meeting of the Mayor and'Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held inthe Council Chamber on Thursday July 19, 1951, at 7:30 o'clock P. M. there were present, Maurice R. Lowenbach Jr; Mayor, C. W. Fiske, J. L. Oliver, E. H. James, and Frank Raflo, Councilmen. 'Due to absents of the recorder, and upon motion duly made seconded, and carr- ied Frank Raflo was elected to serve as recorder for said meeting. .._. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and upon motion of J. L. Oliver seconded by C. W. Fiske, and unaminously carried were approved as read. The Auditor-Treasurer read his -monthly report for the month of June, 1951, his quartly report for the quarter ending June 30, 1951, and his annual report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1951, and upon motion of Frank Raflo, second- ed, and unaminously carried the following resolution was adopted: WHEREAS, the Audtior-Treasurer has this day presented to the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, a quarterly report of all receipts and analysis of all disbursements for the month of April, May, and June 1951, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESLOVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the said quarterly report of the Auditor-Treasurer be and it is hereby approved and accepted by said Council, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Council that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and instructed to have a copy of the said quarterly re- port published once in a newspaper, published in said Town and also post a copy of said report in front of Court House in said Town. The Auditor-Treasurer presented the current bills-for the Month of June, 1951 and upon motion of C. W. Fiske, seconded by J. L. OLiver, and unaminously carried the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia, that . - the Auditor-Treasurer, be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay the following bills: VA; Electric & Power Co; $ 234.11 T. W. Fiske, seconded by E. H. James, and unaminously carr- ied the following resolution was adopted: .. 41 BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia The-tire L. Hough, M.' C. Cornell, and' William C. Hamilton, be given a two weeks vacation with pay or' be paid' for same inlieu there of. Upon motion of C.' W. Fiske,' seconded by Frank Raflo and unaminously carried , permission was granted to a group to have a street carnival on one block of East Royal Street' between Church and King Streets, the first Friday night in August. ' ' ..payor Lowenbach'reported that- there was a drainage water problem on Royal. Street; at the' corner of King Street, and-_the property_ owners had - requested that this bohdtion' be corrected. `. Upon motion of C ' W. Fiske,' seconded by J. L. Oliver and unaminously carried, the'Auditor.Treasurer'was requested, and directed to have curb and guttering installed on' the' south' side of Royal Street from Wirt Street to King Street. The Auditor- Treasurer was futher authorized and directed to have side walk, curb ,'gutter installed on' the" south side of Loudoun Street from the east side of'Church Street" to' a' peint en the east side of the' right of way adjoining Dr. E. ' H: Drakes' property, and that this work was to be done by the Town force. Mayor Lowenbach read a letter from Mr. John Allen Johnston , in which he offered a certain parcel of land to the Town for the extension of South Wirt Street. This offer was made with the under standing that the donation would be made to the Town upon its -acceptance which will provide customary _services and utilities at such time as the development of the land along . the proposed extension progresses to the extent that the services and utilities are necessary for the normal comfort, convenience and sanitation of the occupants of such development. Upon motion of C. W. Fiske, seconded by Frank Raflo, and unaminously' carried the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town Of Leesburg, in Virginia that the Council does and it hereby agrees to accept the parcel of land . offered by ?.r. John Allen Johnston for the extension of South Wirt Street, providing the street width right of ways meet the requirements as set forth in the Town of Leesburg Subdivision Control Ordinance. Lowenbach, Jr; Mayor, Horace M. Hallett, Recorder, C. W. Fiske, J. L. Oliver, Emmerson H. James, Francis L. . Patton, and Frank Raflo, Councilmen. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and upon motion of J. L. Oliver, seconded by E. H. James, and unaminously carried were approved as • read. The Audior-Treasurer read his monthly statement for the month of July 1951, and present the current bills, and upon motion of Emmerson H. James seconded by J. L.
