R. L.. Athey of the Police Force be.given a vacation of two weeks
or pay at the regular_ rate, in _lieu,thereof.
Upon motion of- Vernon L. Clagett, seconded by Harry F. Newton
and unanimously -carried, _the following resolution was adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED-, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in
Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized,
and directed to install a 6-inch water line from the corner of Ayr
and Loudoun 'streets, where- two 4-inch water mains connect, to the
town corporation limits in- a Westerly direction in order that water be made available for the new'highschool.- The above order is sub-
. ject to an agreement being. reached between the Town Attorney and the
• Loudoun County School, Board as to maintenance, use by others, etc .

The resolution from' the State Highway Department regarding
the property of J. E.' Cavihess was again brought up but the matter
was tabled pending further clarification b'y the State Engineer.
The Council autliorized'and instructed the Auditor-Treasurer
to purchase a new Royal typewriter for use in his office.
mr. M. X. Wilberding, engineer engaged by the Town to make a
_survey of the town' s water and sewerage systems, made his report to
Council. After setting forth his reccommendations, Mr. Wilberding
answered questions put forth by members of Council and other in-
terested 'persons present. it was decided that Mr. Wilberding would
meet on August 3, 1953 at 10:00 A. M. in the Town Hall with the
present Mayor and Council along with the incoming Mayor and Council
to further discuss these matters after a more thorough study had
been given Mr. Wilberding' s report.
Upon motion of Emerson H. 'James, seconded by-Vernon L. Clagett .
and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in
Virginia , that the Virginia Electric & Power Company be permitted
to erect an electric light pole and guys in the island located in
• the Northwest corner of the Town Parking Lot at the corner of Wirt
and Market streets.
There being no further business, upon motion duly made,
seconded and carried, the Council adjourned.

At a regular meeting og the Mayor and Council of the Tenn of Leesburg , in
Virginia, .held in the Council Chamber on Monday August 10, 1953 at 7:30 o'clock
P. M., there were present E. S. Dailey, Mayor, Horace M. Hallett, Recorder, Ver-
non L. Claggett, Emmerson H. James, Harry F. Newton and Morton Riddle 111, Council-
men:
' The minutes of the previous meeting were read and upon motion of Emmerson H.
James,, seconded by Verbon L. Claggett, and unaminously carried were approved as
read.
The Auditor-Treasurer read his monthly statement for.the month of July 1953,
and presented the current bills, and_upon motion of Vernon L. Claggett, seconded
by Harry F. Newton, and unaminously carried the following resolution was adopted:

BE IT. RESOLVED,. by. the Council of the Town of Leesburgin.Virginia,_ that the
Auditor-Treasurer, be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay the follow-

A letter from the Virginia State Department of Highways was 'read, in which
they requested the Town Council to pass a certain resoltion regarding the obtain-
ing of a right of way through the property of J. E. Caviness. Council Voted to
table this matter until a complete study of this matter could be made.

A report from the M. X. Wilberding'Engineering Company was read, and upon
motion of Vernon L. Claggett, seconded by Harry F. Newton and carried by a vote
of 3 to 0 , Claggett, Newton, and James, for,Riddle not voting-, Council agreed
not to take any action of the said repbrt.
Upbn motion of Vernon L. Claggett, seconded by Emmerson H. James, and un-
aminously carried the following resolution was adopted: -
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that + '
the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay to each
Official and Councilmen of the Town of Leesburg, attending the Convention of the
League of Virginia Municipalities to be held in Richmond, Va; September 13, 14,
and 15, 1953, the sum of $50.00.
Upon motion of Emmerson H. James, seconded by Morton Riddle, and unaminously
carried the following resolution was adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the
Councilmen of the Town of Leesburg 'salary be increased to $1.50.00 per year effect-
ive September 1, 1953.
Upon motion of Vernon L. Claggett, seconded by Morton Riddle, and unaminous-
ly carried the following resolution was adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg iMi Virginia, that the
Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authoritied and instructed to have a side walk
constructed on the south side of West Market Street from the Presbytarian Church
to Ayr Street, and bn the Fest side of Wirt. Street in front of Harry F. .Newton' s
property, . . .

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that if the Presbytarian Churhh should so desire to
have the side walk in front of their property constructed of brick and they will

agree and pay the difference in the cost of concrete and brick the town will con-
struct .the said sidewalk of brick. .
There being no further business, and upon motion duly made seconded and carr-
