J. Gerson (Gary) Bloch, Managing Director
District A Town Councilor Angeline Kounelis who represents the 80 Elm
Street neighborhood introduced herself to those in attendance at the
meeting. She said that although she was not in favor of "self storage" as an
allowed use in Watertown that she would not object to this project going
forward provided the project was favorably received by the residents of the
neighborhood and they had no objections to the project.
District B Town Councilor Lisa Feltner asked about the "net zero" energy
objective for the building. She was told that there would be solar panels on
the roof and that the developers were optimistic that this could be the first
"net zero" building in Watertown. She also requested that the outdoor
lighting use zero cut off lights. Her final suggestion was for the developers
to think about allowing some exterior blank walls be open for local artists to
paint murals and create some public art.
Mike Wilkins of School Lane wanted to know where the dumpster would go
and what the hours of operation would be and what type of elevator would
be used. He was told that the dumpster would be kept inside the building,
that it would be a hydraulic elevator, and that the normal hours of
operation were from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. but that storage customers
would have "controlled access" to their space from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Randy Berenson from Coolidge Avenue commented that he thought the
building would be a welcome addition to the neighborhood and that the
design was very attractive.
